That's only partially good news since the Dualshock 2 is broken, it has the D-pad and left thumb stick in the wrong place.
The position of the analogue sticks on the DC and GC controllers were the main reason why I never truly got on with them. It took ages to get used to Metroid before it finally "clicked".
You'd be the exception and Metriod has a unconventional control set up unlike other games.
If you hold something you're thumb points up, not down, it's the natural position. That's why the N64, DC, Xbox, 360, NGC all have the left thumbstick there, it's where the D-pad used to be but when that ceased to be the dominant control method everybody moved on. Except for Sony. Because in the Dualshock 1 they had to bolt on the sticks, they coulden't do a major redegn since it was introduced in the middel of the Ps1's cycle, just 2 stick bolted on without much thought putt into them.
A design flaw that for some reason has never been fixed.

I've never really had a problem with the layout of the dual shock either - I find holding the sticks puts my fingers in exactly the right spot for pressing the shoulder buttons. in contrast, the asymmetrical layout of the Cube and XBox pads tends to make either my left hand feel cramped or my right over-stretched.

Hate the precision on the dualshock's analogue sticks though; subtlety of control is just an impossibility with it.

" I think the PS3 will start showing things the 360 will choke at," offers the source. "

Shouldn't the article be named "hands on with an unfinished developer kit for the PS3, playing unfinished games"? The article is as overhyped as the PS3 :).

"I dont understand what is wrong with the layout of the dualshock "

Same here - It's a lot more comfortable to use than the GC controller.

That's what I thought. Really quite poorly written too.

One other point to take into account. Given the nasty nature of the NDA's Sony/MS dish out, the devs he has visited appear to be taking a huge risk. To me this would discount any of the big names and smaller names with a special relationship with Sony. This leaves smaller devs who have not had the kit for all that long. The article also makes the point that the skill of the devlopers is a big factor.

    Some interesting stuff though.
