I know this will please some of you... :-)

No official confirmation, but it's sounding very likely, isn't it?

    Edit:
    The relevant bit:
    "Network User Interface Programmer
The Wipeout Team are looking for an experienced Network User Interface Programmer to take control of the lobby, ladders and other client/server front end systems. The candidate must have good C/C++ skills and at least one published title. Knowledge of HTML, Java, Tomcat & JSP is a requirement and experience with SCE-RT would be an advantage."

Doesn't that kind of suggest that its not going to be a consitent 'Live' type interface for PS3 games?

Of course, I get all my news from GameFront. They rock. Shame they're all in German, really.

    Thats interesting for 2 reasons:

    1 - New Wipeout

2 - It contradicts what was said in the US OPSM and the Next Gen article about Playstation HUB

WipEout Pure is my first proper play on them and while at first I hated it, it's REALLY grown on me now it's picked up the speed and I've gotten used to the way it controls. Love the gameplay, love the style and soundtrack. Rock on.

Would you prefer 'crap scripted boatsim' ?
While you are entitled to an opinion, it's fucking stupid :)

The Wipeout series of games regulary features in ' The Top n Games of all time' in just about every site that includes Playstation games.

Google it if you don't believe me.

For pilled out my head lightshow I loved Wipeout.

But for superior gameplay I prefared Rollcage.

/goes on ebay looking for a copy of Rollcage Stage 2

I think maybe that HUB won't be available straight away. After all you can't just pull something like that out of your arse. So it's possible that online play may be made available some other way in the meantime.

Okay game(On PS1/PSP anyway), but racers do my nut tbh.

Now if they were to announce Colony Wars for the PS3, that would be heaven.

that game and its sequal did indeed rock, the learning curve was a mofo but raking ot a convoy of tanks was loads of fun

Carlo: I'm with you. I haven't played the ps2 incarnation for Wipeout but I know that the PSP garnered a lot of acclaim. Wipeout has definitely been a constantly strong franchise IMO.

i like wipeout, pity its a PS exclusive
    and relatively good soundtrack indeed

The only soundtracks that I've found to be better than Wipeout's in my opinion are Rollcage 1's, Ridge Racer 4's, and JSRF's.

I would buy this. But only because of Wipeout 2097! I have played the others (sans WO:pure) but, for me the track designs make a Wipeout for me and there are a hanful of tracks on 2097 that are lovely.

Plus the music is quite nice.

Not really. They ask for someone to write code for their lobby stuff & such. It is true that ms has made standard components, but they still need to be coded into the game and they need to work propperly with the the rest. After all, sony's consoles arnt exactly known for their easy coding thingies. :\

This doesnt say anything about sony's online plan's.

I'm particularly interested in the "TOOLS PORGRAMMER" advertised by Datascope - could be a job for some people on here? :)

Think we get the message, your one liners are getting more than a little dull now.

IMO WipEout has been a fantastic series, aside from Fusion, so i look forward to a PS3 version.

Frod no one in this thread is likely to agree with you. You've made your thoughts clear as you're entitled to do, now spare us!

For me, this news rocks hard. Although at 260-something golds in Wipeout Pure, it's turning in to a chore, not a pleasure, so I hope they rethink the "beat every single possible combination of track/class/race mode" objective idea.

@Tengu - Colony Wars maybe, but I'd still love to see a next-gen G-Police myself.

edit: or even current gen ;-)
