How much would 'you' pay? Page 3

I would pay about 300 for one at the most because they would go down in price anyway in a few years time I think, just like the PS1 and PS2.

The question wasn't what is a fair market price. It's what we'd be prepared to pay for one. Couldn't care less if games are stored on Blu-ray, HD-DVD, standard DVD or those little glass card things from Star Trek. I'm certainly not asking for blu-ray. If that puts the price up then it means i'll just have to wait longer before buying one. A games console isn't worth any more than £200 to me.

Exactly what I was saying. A company's new console should be comparatively priced to the previous one they released, as even if it has a lot greater technology than the last one, the technology will have been about the same price to produce as the last console's technology.

Imagine if console manufacturers found it acceptable to increase the release day price of a games console by £100 with respect to the release price of their previous console (not including inflation), just because its technology is apparently more beyond its time than the last console they released.

    Its is the year 2206....

    GAME website:-

    XBox 4060.5 x 20(400x290x3) - £4,300 (inc 1 controller)

    Playstation 42 - £4,800 (inc bugger all)

Prices have to be comparative to the previous console's price.

    oh...

I don't think it should be over £300, if it does it could be another PSX... a nice bit of kit but something no one buys.

Perhaps I haven't read this thread carefully, but I'm sure no-one has claimed they'd pay £600 - but only if it could drive both their 50" HDTV OLEDs. Or something like that.

You know - the sock who irritated enough posters to the tune of 13 pages or so.

€450 (~£300) is definately the limit for me I couldn't justify spending anything more on it, neither can Sony.

€400 should be what it's pitched at,

Definitely in at anything up to £350, £400 would only put me off if really, really bad reports were coming in about the launch games/video playback etc., £450 would still be a possibility if they announce it in enough time for me to save up, and at £500 I'm probably saying no unless there's some nice stuff in the bundle. More than £500 and you've got to think that the first price drop wouldn't be too far away.

I know I'm going to be waiting a long time, but I'm not going to pay a penny over £100, I waited for the PS1 and still waiting for the PS2, I can wait for the bloody PS3 too.

well then your theory proves everyone is being silly when they say £250, the previous consoles were more expensive so why should they become cheaper when the stuff in ps3 is apparently bleeding edge tech.

but alas, im an xbox fan so i'm not too fussed what the price is.

I don't think I'll be getting a PS3 at all now... not because of price issues but because I'm pretty addicted to the 360's achievement system as well as Xbox Live, etc... and that would make PS3 more of a distraction than anything else.

I'm willing to pay £200. Not expecting that price in my wildest dreams though! I'd guess between £300 and £400 at launch which means i won't be getting one for quite some time...

I have to say that MS really have done well with the live system....

Listening to others talk about it I can't help but feel a bit left out.

Unfortunately being in the asian market and with limited funds I can't see myself being able to take part for a few more years.

s it's now been Officially Announced and there's now movement in certain gamers' trousers, I thought I'd bump this.

So, what's the limit on what you'd shell out for it?

    Me? Still £300.

Well, I'm still waiting for details on al the PVR stuff and what kind of functionality it will have, but yeah £300 ish, although if it really is going to replace several of my under TV thingies in one then I might go up a bit.

I'm still saying no more than £200. If there are some really fucking special games and I seriously can't do without it then I might just about stretch to £250 given that there won't be any memory cards to add on to the cost this time.

    +1

It's also the only way I could sell it to the missus: recordable TV etc.

Seems to be lacking the suitable video inputs for PVR.

Not sure how much I'll pay as I'll need a HDMI switch at the same time. Might put getting a PS3 off until I can get an amp with the switching in.

Well I have Sky plus and doubt any PVR they include in it will come close to that service.

I am not interesting in Blue Ray at this point and just see its inclusion as more Sony trying to force a format that people are not really bothered about yet. It's almost like they care more about Blue ray than the Playstation brand. That is the way it comes across to me anyway.

So all we are left with that I might want is that actual part that plays games. As such £200 is probably my limit.

Maybe the PVR functions will work through the HDMI; ie, HD subscription payers only. Going on Sony's previous with DRM this is how I see it panning out.

For the games console I'd pay around £250-300 depending on bundle. Whether I get one will also depend on just how many exclusives Sony manages to hold onto.

A crisp ten pound note. I shall plant it in your hand, Mr. Ken Kutaragi, and walk off with my new PS3 come launch, thank you.
