I found this funky tripod for compact cameras on engadget last week, it's a US company so I emailed them and they do ship internationally.

Incase anybody is interested the UK shipping prices are -

    Priority - $25.00 - 5 business days
    Global Priority - $8.00 - 7-10 business days

Anybody found anything similar in the UK before I order one??

    Cheers.

I have an UltraPod; it's very nice. Got it from Field & Trek IIRC...

    Cheers for the info.

I've got a few different tripods for various uses and cameras, haven't got one that I can hang from a tree or attach to some railings tho...

Cool video on it, I think I'm gonna order one.

I couldn't possibly buy anything from a company called 'Joby'.

Anyone tried those 'unipods' or single-leg jobbies?

I'm after a slim or compact job for my compact. Definitely don't want anything that cannot extend to at least a metre.

Actually, mini tripods are surprisingly useful. You can usually find some surface somewhere that's good enough to give you the height - walls, car roofs etc. - and the tripod just levels it off for you.

When closed, the legs of the UltraPod form an 'L' section so you can use the velcro strap to attach it securely to a post. It's a nice bit of kit and small enough to go with me everywhere my camera does.

Incidentally, (sorry to hijack the thread for a minute) can anyone recommend a traditional tripod for an SLR?
I'm just getting into photography and would appreciate the advice of the EG pros!

    thanks

    I just got a manfrotto 190 pro with a 322rc2 head.

Really pleased with it. Not too heavy to carry around, but still quite sturdy. And the head is a grip type - very quick to find a postition and lock it off.

Not for everyone but if you don't need to pan along a single axis I'd give it a big thumbs up.
