Well the 360 has Gears of War by Epic, Mass Effect by Bioware & Too Human by Silicon Knights plus a lot more. Huge titles. Might not be sequels to AAA games but you have to start somewhere. KOTOR etc.. anyone? New IP's are always nice. Oh, those two JRPGs Lost Odyssey & Blue Dragon.

Think a lot of people really don't know whats coming down the line. Will be a nice surprise for gamers. Its going to be one happy Q4 2006 for gamers regardless of platform.

Sony is playing a high cost, high risk, game.

It could screw it up, it has in the past.

It was once the king of consumer electronics, my TV, VCR, HiFi, camcorder, walkman etc, all used to be Sony. Others have caught up and in many cases overtaken Sony.

But, they are still at the top of the console 'war'. Can they loose this too? I doubt it. Reduced market share for sure, the 360 is a great machine and the Rev looks very promising.

What we don't really know is what the effect of Blu-ray will be, if it goes the way of Betamax and Mini Disc, then it may hurt the sales of the PS3, but it cannot kill it as Sony can and will keep the format alive if only for games.

    Interesting times ahead...

those opposing the article forget the Sony really has brainwashed people into being complete playstation mugs.

i have a mate that plays my 360 and he always goes yeah but PS3 will piss all over it this is shite compared to PS3 ive seen the videos

H - they are FMV garry

    G - nah PS3 is the best

    H - where's the proof

    G - don't need it, it's playstation, eh?

    /punches Garry
I agree some people may be brainwashed by Sony(usually chavs), but some people just like the Playstation2 due to its simplicity, reasonable price of both console and games, and its vast quantity of games. Lets see...

Simple controller with pleanty of buttons, and suitable for a lot of different games - check

No bull DVD player that's usable from the off - check

    ...and thats it.

If people want to jump on the same Playstation bandwagon every time to guarantee a good selection of games, and good loyalty of 3rd party developers, then thats fine with me because, generally, Sony hasn't disappointed yet.

Sorry for another one of my car analogies, but say the new Pagani Zonda is faster and better in a lot of ways to the newest offering from Ferrari, although the Zonda is fairly popular, most people would play it safe and go for the Ferrari because they know it will guarantee a certain degree of quality, and they know the minimum of what to expect from it. I think this analogy is exactly the same as the original XBox and the PS2, the XBox being the more powerful Zonda, and the PS2 being the Ferrari with more trust, reputation and loyal following behind it.

Gonna stop there before shouts of Troll and Fanboi are heard, but surely somebody must see my point.

I pretty much got the same idea brewing. Apparently there's this game called Ico and sotc that are supposed to be quite good ;-)

Or buy a 2nd hand PS2 and then get a PS3 after the first price drop instead of early adopting to play old games.

UNless of course you are made of money! :p

The 360 needs a "Halo". Not necessarily "Halo 3", you understand .

Just one game that makes any half-interested gamer screw up their face as they try to continue walking past a game-shop on a Saturday after payday because they know they can afford it, they've played THAT game on a friend's system, seen the advert, read the 10/10 review(s) and can't fight the urge any more . . .
"And I'll need an extra controller. And I'll buy Ghost Recon as well, just for a change of pace . . ."

What I personally don't understand, is the attraction to Halo. I'm not saying it's a bad game or anything, but it's not something that would strike me as being popular with "any half-interested gamer", whereas I can (kind of) understand the attraction of more casual gamers to say GTA (violence / freeform) or GT4 (cars).
    It must be the music...

yup and some might say quantity over quality.

The one fundamental problem I have with your second point though is this time around Sony are in a really difficult position regarding pricing. Nobody can deny this is a really complicated piece of kit and is going to be rather expensive for them to manufacture. So they have a couple of choices:
    1) Make it expensive and run the risk of losing potential buyers. Consumers are a fickle bunch, even the Playstation brand won't be enough if this is the case.
    2) Price it in and around the same price as 360 and take a huge loss in the hope that software sales can recoup some of it. Very dangerous if the machine does a PS2 like launch and people only pick it up as a Blu-ray player.

They are playing a really dangerous game this time around and if they don't get the games right for the launch as a company they are screwed.
