There appears to be a video of the new tech demos here: 1UP ... although it's not finished downloading yet, so I don't know what's in it. |

You don't miss the "whoopin' and a hollerin'"?
No, me neither. -
Nice enough, but nothing out of the reach of a good PC rig or a 360. Which won't be a surprise, I guess. -

Registered 16 years agoUrgh... those paid-up MS shills at E3 were sickening. Not just because they were circled behind Allard in plain view, but they wooped at every oter word including mentions of revenue for fecks sake. -

There's some footage of I-8 in there (with a guy actually playing), but it looks dead boring. .gif)
There's a bit of the duck demo, a floaty head, and the new fish demo (which would make a great screensaver).
All presented in dodgy-camcorder-o-vision, by a guy who doesn't appear to be able to hold a camera straight. -

LD: So you're not getting one then?
Techdemos mean nothing to me though.
Getting one at lauch is out of the question. Full BC compatibility interests me, as it'd be nice to play a few PS2 gems I missed out on on an HD display. BR is not a deal maker/breaker for me, but I'll keep a close eye on the HD media war so it could end up being a decisive factor.
Lastly it comes down to games and so far I'm happy with what I got and excited about the onslaught of 360 games over the coming months. It would take a slew of quality titles (and I don't just mean FFXIII and GTA4 here) to convince me of buying another console. -

Dude, I get the impression Big Phil would need to offer you his firstborn to get you to buy one

LOL. No, it's not as bad as that. It's simply down to the fact that I can draw a list of 12 exclusive titles or more for the 360 that I want to play over the next year or so. A lot of the PS3 launch titles will be multiplatform as publishers will try to maximise revenues, so there's no reason for me to buy this console right away. Major hitters like RE5 will be available on both platforms.
So it'll take a lot of exclusive PS3 goodness for me to consider buying one. -

the new unreal engine looks pretty crap in that video..
Don't jump to conclusions. It's used in Gears of Wars and Unreal Tournament 2007, and by all accounts looks amazing, whether running on PC, PS3 or 360. -

He's right though - it's not a very impressive demonstration vid is it? -
Shooting barrels doesn't get you going? -
Ok fair enough. I was trying to defend the PS3 here, serves me right!

im not jumping to conclusions.. i was impressed with the realtime demo at last years e3, but this lastest footage just looks a bit shit. they shoot some barrels, they unconvincingly bounce about a bit, and thats it.
as for the rest of the environment, it looks like doom3.
Just what I was thinking.
Those demos were totally underwhelming in that video, although the fish one looked nice. The ducks one was a huge "so what?" You want a cool physics demo, look no further than burnout revenge.
Back down to earth eh? -

Any Motorstorm videos ? -
Some teenie-tiny pictures of the other tech demos (and a load of incomprehensible wibble) are here. -

Registered 18 years agoThat makes it even less impressive. Still need to see videos of course but absolutely nothing there in that Motorstorm pic except the car and some mud. Same with that car in the desert. Again with Warhawk. Think IGN need their eyes tested or I should of been there
But, tiny pics, no video. Bring on E3. -

Registered 20 years agoThey're only demos I know but I dont think i've ever been more under-whelmed. The duck thing was rubbish.
Compared to the Xbox robot thing mimicking that girl, that was impressive!
Of course the MGS4 and Killzone demos were very impressive, but not necessarily representative of 'real-time.'

i think its pretty safe to say mgs4 was realtime, i remember watching a video were they zoomed in and out and changed the camera angle etc in the video sequance.. showing off the textures and d.o.f rendering, looked pretty damn realtime to me.
they even explaned how the guy on the screen carried by the little robot was actually on the level somewere and was a realtime 3d model and not just a 2d video stuck onto the front of the screen.
edit: heres the video im talking about.gif)

Notice how the camera zooms into the screen revealing the individual OLED's? Now that's attention to detail. -
