I really can't see where this 'FMV is teh ultimate ev1l' thing comes from. Actually I can - it comes from 360 owners who are secretly shitting themselves that games won't actually fit onto DVD. ;-)

I don't mind it, bit o' eye candy as a reward for doing well.

I used to look forward to FMVs during the PSone era games.

I personally wouldn't mind oodles of high-def Squeenix FMVage in my game. I'd still mark out for it.

Yeah, this is good news Barton. Watching the closing FMV for FFXII was the reward for finishing the game in my eyes, and was well worth it. Game engine cut scenes work great for keeping the thing flowing in most cases, but for the truly spectacular moments I like having some outrageous FMV.

But surely the graphics should be good enough now that they dont need to use crappy prerendered sequences, unless sony are full of shit about the ps3 having graphics good enough to just use in game for sequences.

I cant help feeling that final fantasy is not improving, it seems each one they bring out feels weaker than the last.

"I cant help feeling that final fantasy is not improving, it seems each one they bring out feels weaker than the last."

    Not in this reality.

However good the graphics that a machine can produce are, I would be surprised if you couldn't keep on producing better prerendered stuff for a long while.

I finished it a week ago. I've given my impressions in the FFXII thread if you'd like to hear more. :)

Realtime vs. CG, as reported by some magazine, and now posted on some fourm.

    Not a bad comparison, methinks.

    + from IGN:

Weapons seem like they will play a big part in the main FFXIII too. Toriyama noted that with the PS2, weapons were forced to have the absolute minimal amount of polygons. With FFXIII, the staff has devoted considerable polygon budget to the weapons... going so far as to include details right down to "transformation gimmicks." Weapons can change form in the middle of battle

    REAL T1ME W3AP0N CHANG3!!!

Seriously though, they had better not make FFXIII too action oriented, that's what vs XIII is for, surely?

I'm confused. Where are the comparisons? I only see pre-rendered vs pre-rendered?

    Er, go away? :)

Unless you're being serious, in which case the first one is realtime, the second one is pre-rendered. I really see no reason to doubt this until the game comes out, but this discussion was done to death not long ago.

What's strange is that, despite the fact that every FF thread will eventually end up with this argument, no specific "which is the best FF" thread has ever been made :)

    (Might not be true, that).

Sorry - have you seen someone playing this? The images from that thread were from a trailer I saw a couple of weeks back. But no one was actually playing it.

    Just wondering.

But how do you know that's what I'm trying to get at. Why was it worth bumping the thread unless someone has actually confirmed that these are in -game when the images are merely taken from an old trailer.

    *shrugs*

Motomu Toriyama, director of the main FFXIII title for the PS3, revealed to Gaimaga that scenario work for his project is 80% complete, with the game's visual engine, running on actual PS3 hardware, being nearly finished. "Now," he said, "is the time for the true start of FFXIII."

One of the best points Gaimaga makes is in showing how closely the real-time and CG visuals in FFXIII resemble one another. The magazine has two close-up shots of the main character, one in real time, the other CG. The two are remarkably similar, right down to individual hair strands.

You do mean the same FF2 as me right? The one where they didn't have a level system, and you improved stats/spells in-battle ala Romancing SaGa? The one where you had to use a spell thousands of times to get it to full power, and to improve your HP you had to keep attacking your own party members for hours on end?
