Extender tubes

    I've got no experience of these at all, but how would something like this affect image quality? Looking at the prices of longer lenses, I could really do with a cheaper way of getting closer to subjects than shelling out multiple thousands of pounds.

    I think they have a negative effect on the amount of light getting through the lens to the degree of the extension. So a 2x extender will make you f4 lens an f8 lens at best as I understand it, which can make em a bit useless unless you have a really good tripod.

    edit: the degree of light reduction may not be as bad as I said, but it will cut it down!
