Well that's shit, I missed most of it!

Not that I doubt I missed much

Well, so far you've missed some cracking comic acting by the blokes in the Cybermen suits, and the silliest "defeating the bad guy" scene since Jeff Goldblum killed the aliens with an Apple Mac.

This isn't going to go down as one of the all-time classic episodes...

Was that just a "Welcome To Newport" sign they drove past?
Nice to see the set dressers and continuity people are as good at their job as the script writers :(

At least next weeks episode looks better.

    God that was rubbish.

Why can't they try something, you know, different? And not even vaguely predictable?

Mind you, I suppose RTD would argue that the Cyber Control having a port lying around that a Siemens mobile phone just happened to fit into, programmed to take any number typed into it and transmit it to all the Cybermen Emotion Inhibitors, is pretty unpredictable.

    Indeed.

Anyway, the episode was rather predictable, and a bit stupid at times (we predicted nearly everything that happened, except for some intricacies in our plot where Mrs. More was John Lumic's wife). The suddenly-out-of-nowhere-light-zapping-the-robots-and-saving-the-Doctor scene was a bit random and deus ex machina. I burst out loud laughing when a Cyberman's head exploded for no reason.

Anyone else notice the Playstation name dropping? I bet Mickey's too well bribed... er... cool to own a GameCube or an Xbox. ;)

I also wonder whether it really was Mickey that survived or whether it was Rickey. But since we'll never go back there again it doesn't really matter anyway.

Next week's episode looks miles better anyway. Who's it directed by?

The preview the next weeks look quite shite. Hey look, it's London again! I wonder what the chances of Torchwood being mentioned/involved are?!?!

It's written by Mark Gatiss and directed by Euros Lyn, the same people who did the Victorian episode from the last season. So fingers crossed...

I bet Mickey used the emotion engine to hack into the cybermen ;)

    /gets coat

The episode was quite boring, and suffered from crap writers using any bit of technology to get them out of a plot hole

I wish they'd done that. I'd have forgiven them for all the Earth/London-centric stories then, because at least there would have been a decent plot reason for it

Maureen Lipman really can be quite disturbing! Don't think I'll ever see her in a 'jewish mother' light again!

Was it my imagination or was the premise for that episode remarkably similar to Mark Gatis's previous one.

Mark's last one was about an alien race trying to gain control of people by invading their bodies via gas.

His new one was about an alien lifeform trying to gain power by sucking people's life out of them via a TV.

Yeah... Oh well. It was good fun! The music didn't grate (and was quite sci-fi as opposed to thunderingly cheesy 'choirs') and overall it was quite unsettling and nasty!

But please, PLEASE, get the HELL off Planet Earth, will ya? :(

i think tennant ok, needs a little more getting used too but he quite good, tell you who does my nut in is billie, she way to main stream, if the docs gonna be all cheerful, his companion cant be.Maybe i just dont like her as his assistant, maybe i dont like her at all. Another thing doctor who is supposed to be a little darker, and what annoys me is when the person doing the music uses the same crap singing of like a choir to try to convey this, you try listen to it, its rubbish.Another minor point to the above, everybody loves doctor who theme, i can just about get used to the fact that they have tried to jaz it up, but when Orbital have done a far far better version, why not use that, anyway nough of my rants, I love doctor who and hope it gets better, or maybe i need to regress 20 yrs then it will all be ok again.later.

    Lovecraft more like.

That was awesome, makes up for the general travesty the series has been up to this point. AND they had Doom sound effects!

Quite a solid episode this week. I can't wait to see what happens next, no matter how cliche that sounds... Anyway, despite probably being the best we've seen this season, nothing has been able to touch the Empty Child/the Doctor Dances two parter. *MC Hammer music plays*

Who knew R'yleh was under a black hole rather than under the sea on Earth?

Really enjoyed tonight's episode; Starspawn slaves, black hole, rickety space base, Doom sound effects and a really nice use of a quarry!

Disappointed Scooti died though, she was very, er, telegenic.. :-)

Was so much better than that dull and rather poorly written Cybermen two-parter. Last week's was OK, but a bit formulaic, as someone has pointed out. Episode by template.

This one was genuinely quite scary ( speaking from the perspective of my errr seven year old nephew who loves Dr Who, of course.... ) and a great build up of tension at the end. Can't wait for the resolution next week. Probably be some ridiculous miracle McGuffin to aid the escape, as usual, but who care?

As usual I enjoyed it, but I'm easily pleased! Yet again, though, I'll miss the 2nd part! Why do they always do 2 parters when I have plans the following week!

I liked this weeks, it was genuinely scary; however Tennant's character is so bent it's untrue. "I *LOVE* you people!" thing and the incessant moral story - am I the only one getting a bit cheesed off with it?

Still, the episode was okay. It was properly scary for the first time this series, at least.

No doubt the antichrist will be defeated by a sonic screwdriver and a mobile phone, though. There doesn't seem to be much in the way of recurring Who baddies - we see the Daleks, and the Cybermen, and then the Dr destroys them all (perhaps not the Cybermen, but they were camper than I remember them anyway)....

Wonder if The Master will make an appearance? I suspect Tennant will kill him with a fart and stick of chewing gum - to make way for RTD's 'real' next-gen baddies.
