It makes sense. I guess I'm just used to it by now. Am I the only one? |

Registered 19 years agoY'know, for possibly the first time ever, I agree with Bunda; I quite like it.
I still think it's a ridiculous idea to attempt to use the 'Wii' brand in the UK, but hey, maybe it'll get them some press inches.... -

Registered 17 years agoCan't stand the word wee, it really winds me up for no logical reason. So the new name wasn't ever going to go down well with me. Nintendo us(I supose it sounds too much like United states) or Nintendo together, maybe could have given the same message but they went with Wii

Yup but for all the wrong reasons. The man on the street will just laugh at the name and won't buy it.

Registered 18 years agoI still don't like it, but I'm learing to live with. The logo execution does work at reducing the general hilarity of the name, and if executed right, a good marketing and PR campaign will get the message of We rather than Wee out there without too much difficulty.
What I don't understands is why they released the name in this fashion? If they'd spent the previous couple of weeks prepping the fanboys with teaser sites, viral e-mails and hints then it wouldn't have been greeted with such universal hate.
Example, if they'd launch a site that said this:
We are Mariio
We are Metroiid
We are Liink
Then released changed it to:
Wii are gamers
Then it would've paved the way to a gentler response methinks.
Oh well, what's done is done. Bring on the games... -

Registered 16 years agoAnd when you think about it, Wii could be a poorly-aimed publicity stunt, because it sure is getting a lot of attention media-wise.
Also, some people might just buy the console for its novelty and the ability to say "Come play with my Wii" to their friends (I know it'll make my purchase of one that much better). -

Registered 16 years ago+1 Bunda. It has certainly got everyone talking about it, so it's served it's purpose.
But it is still a stupid name. I reckon it'll go back to revolution before too long. -

And you know what? I can almost guarantee that in 6 months time everyone will agree.
Look at the logo. Imagine it on a game box. Imagine turning on your console and see two i's dancing into the screen, joined by a w. Wii. Play.
Wii Play.
I like it. It sort of defines us.
(Fuck, I've really bought the whole marketing bullshit, haven't I?) -

Yeah. What a cool announcement it would be to have a big unveiling of the revolution as the revolution at E3.

Registered 19 years agoOnce the console's been released and the name Wii will be plastered all over posters, boxarts, websites, magazines etc. no one will remember that it happens to sound just like "wee". The word will have another meaning (and hopefully it will be really cool and awesome games).
