MS seem to agree that Ninty isn't their competition

So they want everyone to buy one alongside a 360 so they've got no time + money left for a PS3.

    Yahoo News article

PS. Yep TR421, that was a particularly stupid typo in the thread title from me :-D.

Yeah, because if MS manage to completely dominate the console gaming industry by completely wiping out Sony/the PlayStation brand it'll be great! MS ftw.

Unfortunately getting a PS3 (again for JRPGs). I will however be getting a Wii first (will preorder one asap).

I wish Squaresoft, Nippon Ichi etc would develop for other consoles (I know SS do but they dont bring their flagship titles over).

    When did they say that?

Yeh right, and pigs fly. I seriously doubt that ms will dominate the market any time soon. they might get something like 40% market share. Perhaps some more, but sony will still be the biggest by the end of the day. They might stand a chance next generation.

That said, i wont be buying a PS3 at launch because i will be buying a rev. and the a ps2 has one of my biggest dust collections in the house.

I think MS would have agreed that Ninty wasn't competition right up until the positive press reports started coming in after the Nintendo press conference.

Nintendo were 'also-rans' up until that point. They still might turn out to be, but Nintendo are stealing all the good press (at least, in the UK) at the moment, and Microsoft will not be comfortable with that.

I think that most ppl will get a rev. AND a PS3 or 360. So in that perspective, i doubt that MS or Sony see them as direct competition. Much less than MS vs Sony anyway.

Gamers yes, and a few of us wil have all 3, but I think casual gamers will only end up with one, and it's starting to look as though a number of them may go for a Wii. And if they manage to pull off another DS success, a number of girls may become gamers too, all increasing Nintendo's popularity again.

Ah, Derblington beat me to it. :o)

The other point is that if Nintendo really do open up a whole new group of gamers, Microsoft (and Sony) cannot just leave Nintendo to 'own' that market. They'll have to compete! Problem is, Nintendo will have such a head-start, the others will have to work very hard to steal some of it for themselves - again.

So, I expect Micrsoft to have little to say about Nintendo, until all the E3 feedback has sunk in.

Just think - Microsoft (and maybe Nintendo) are working on the next next-gen, right now..

Err, what makes you think that?

I really don't see any reason for them to be concerned at the moment. Should it flop at launch then they'll have to do something drastic, but we all know that won't happen.

There's a sixth month old interview with him on GS where he basically said that Nintendo, "Do there own thing" and he wishes them luck with it. He did say that they're not in direct comptetion with MS as to what they are trying to achieve. In fact, that's what Ninty say themselves.

Oh I'm sure Sony have fresh fibs up their sleeves and many more spec changes for people to wonder about over the next few months. If the reaction to the price causes financial analysts to start giving more %s to Microsoft, the price will change again too.

I think I'll get properly married to my Wii, and keep a 360 on the side as a mistress...

What's the worse that could happen to SONY?A relatively early price cut I think. Not a bad thing.

Pretty much what I'm planning on doing. Xbox for the meaty games like fighting racing shooting etc, and Wii for quirky fun games. Plus I haven't got much love for Sony. Hope eveyone else has the same idea too.
Not me. I'll be getting a Rev for the interesting games, and (eventually) a PS3 as an HD player and for the JRPGs. The 360 doesn't figure in my plans at all, and wouldn't even if it were made by someone other than Microsoft.
