Tins from now on. Kidney beans, I'm talking about. The packet said half an hour, and like an idiot I believed it. You're supposed to soak them overnight, boil them for fifteen minutes, then simmer them for 30 more or until soft. They've been on there about an hour now and are still pretty tough. I can't see a reason to do this, personally. The money you save going to packet beans is surely offset by the energy that goes into cooking the bastard things, let alone the mental anguish suffered during the cooking process. |
Never cooking these bastard beans again

Registered 16 years agoTinned kidney beans are horrible, but if they're just going into chilli, then you can easily mask the plastic-y taste with shitloads of chilli powder.
...and cocoa powder, strangely enough. -

Registered 18 years agoI think it was because I didn't cover the pan, I was cooking them in an open pan.
Cocoa powder huh? That's a good one, I will definitely try that. I've been using soy sauce... it's pretty good. -

cocoa in chilli? -

Registered 16 years agoSeriously, it makes chilli really rich and tasty. You have to offset the chocolateyness with spicyness though, so it only really works if you like your chilli hot.
Mmm... Chilli

Registered 18 years agoI do but I'm not allowed to eat chillis at the moment because Mrs. Teeth thinks it aggravates my hands. So I'm doing one for her and one sans chillis for me

Registered 18 years agoYeah, well, I've sealed them under a lid now so they can stop mocking me.
It seems that spicy food makes my hands itch at the moment. All the skin fell off my hands recently; I believe it's some kind of dermatitis. -

Teeth, try not washing your hands so often (if you do). Or air-dry them somehow, but that would require a cool-flow hair dryer or low power hand-dryer, which I doubt you own. -

Razz... she's not pregnant! Not that I know.
Prof, yeah, I don't know what the actual cause is, certainly the skin's dryness is not a factor when the condition arises; only after the top layer of skin has falen off do I get the dryness. -

I've been cooking this meal for over three hours now. The beans still aren't done. I'm in a foul mood.
