They will both work fine without Java and Javascript they are just missing a few bits and pieces. If anybody is posting from it a quick test would be to see does clicking the comments link and see does it open the bubble or go directly to the list of comments. If it does then it's not using JS.

The trial thing is because it isn't finished yet. Stuff is missing like javascript and they just tried to shove this version out the door as quick as possible, removing anything that might b0rk it.
Full version is released in March, and it will be free to download until June, when it'll cost 500 points.
By the way - are you sure it's not Java rather than Javascript it's missing? YouTube and EG wouldn't work too well without JS.

It's not intentional. Sorry.

I reckon Mapster is easily the nicest EG forumite in real life, you can just tell.
Hello, you either have JavaScript turned off or an old version of Macromedia's Flash Player. Get the latest flash player.
I was getting that earlier on the Wii. I could only get it working after going to another .flv site first. -

Registered 16 years agoOddly, on YouTube I was able to enlarge the videos at first using the button in the bottom right of the video screen (see image below...) and it looked fantastic, was watching a friend of mine hunt down an F430 in a £6k shopping trolley.
Clicky
But now whenever I do it I just get a black screen with a little link in the top right corner which takes you off to the Adobe site. Weird.

Still works here. I just watched the whole of Knowing Me Knowing Yule from youtube using that little button. Worked with no issue.
Just a shame there isn't an "hide" option for the big ugly browser icon bar.... :/ -

Registered 16 years agoNo luck with dailymotion though which is a shame, better quality by far.
edit:
And 10 seconds after I post one of the daily motion ones works. However, the better quality ends up with frame stutter...
edit-edit:
and no I crashed it

Registered 18 years agoAllright. I've used it for a fair amount of time now so here's my verdict.
Opera on Wii is A brilliant waste of time
I've found that when I boot out of Zelda I scan EG forums for awhile. Then I do it again and again. Then I check some gameblogs and finnish it off with some youtube madness. Another perk is the ability to check out the birthday of Picasso as I was making a Mii of him today. Wikipedia just a few clicks away
The last bit highlights what
Opera on Wii isn't areplacement for a PC(or mac)
Having to save my Picasso Mii, exit the Mii channel, start the browser, find his birthday (and then a quick look at EG forums), then close the browser, start the Mii channel and find mr Picasso asleep behind Yao Ming at the plaza aptly illustrates how comforable our lives in the 21st century has become.
I'm used to having my browser in a separate widow. I'm also in favour of highdefinition browsing. And a keyboard doesn't hurt.
That said. I love Opera on Wii.
8/10
Tips & Tricks
*See that grey bar at the bottom of every forum page? Zoom in on it for a snug fit on a 16:9 screen
*Lay low with the RSS feeds for now(EG's crashed my Wii)
*I'm quite sure that pressing the powerswitch for 5secs should poweroff your wii even if it freezes. (It has worked twice for me)

The good news is that you don't have to. It will be free of charge for two or three months.
I would have bought it even if it wasn't though. 500points is roughly 5€ isn't it? Easily worth it. -

Have been bookmarked in Wii Opera as essential media streaming sites that work (although last FM wont alow me to build my own playlists in Opera). Anymore for anymore? -

Registered 19 years agoIs anyone else finding that this crashes a fair bit?
And when it does, it crashes HARD. Have to unplug the power from the Wii.
I'm not sure, but I think it is partly to do with how slow the wireless connection is due to the Wii's location and having to reload pages constantly to get everything to show up. -

Registered 18 years agoMine has never crashed. We might browse different sites though. I would strongly suggest that you set your wireless router to brodcast on channel 1 or 11 if you havent already. It makes all the difference in the world. -
Yup, mine's crashed. Seems to be progressive and if I visit a lot of complex sites. -

edit: and mine crashed on Wikipedia, which isn't exactly a complex site. Hope the machine's not borked somehow.

Registered 18 years agoI don't know why but for some reason the WiFi is quicker and less prone to connection errors if you set it to channel 1 or 11. I used to get a lot of connection errors before I changed the setting.
The browser is still abeta so the crashes might be down to that. I mainly use mine to check this forum and to see whats on telly. -

Try the T9 trick. Write Alcohollic the A then go back and delete the space inbetween.
1 Alcohollic
2 Alcohollic A
3 AlcohollicA
