this is a reaction to eurogamers feauture about how sony did at e3. the idea that third party developers will produce simple motion games based on the ps3's limited controller is worrying enough, but when they do multi platform releases does this mean the wii is going to have a slew of unimaginative and basic motion based games ala warhawk? discuss |
is sonys 'me too' nature going to ruin gaming for ps3 and wii owners?

I think that the Wii will have its fair share of unimaginative titles anyway. I don't really think that the PS3 tilt sensor technology is a significant extra factor... IMHO of course. -
Wii has wand, PS3 has tilt and Eyetoy.
Regular joypad ftw! -

I at least see nintendo moving forward and gaining some ground. Moving forward is good no - even if it isnt a huuuuuge success. -

Registered 19 years agoimho, the Wii will get the usual excellent 1st party line-up, all using the controller in interesting ways. 3rd parties will favour the PS3 as it will make loads more money. The PS3 controller might actually turn out to be a lame duck, as none of the 1st generation games seem to be planning to support it.
End result - Nintendo will support Wii, and will really push the casual gamer angle. PS3 will sell more without doing anything brilliant. -

Registered 16 years agoI don't think, given their wildly different specs, that cross-platform development for PS3 & Wii is really possible.
I could be wrong tho' -

I dont get that reasoning, PS2 has done well due to strong games really, Gran Turismo, Grand Theft Auto, Final Fantasy, Metal Gear Solid. Id say all these series can be called brilliant, and just because they arnt crazy gimmicky and are just games designed to be games, doesnt mean that they arent brilliant.
Thats not even counting the vastly under-apprciated Nippon Ichi games.

They could ironically rename the PS3 'Mi'

Registered 17 years agoJust because the PS3 will have tilt sensors, it dosn't mean developers can now shove stuff from PS3 to Rev. I mean, you'd lose a heck of a lot of buttons along the way!
The motion sensor has to be a major factor in Rev games. There's no way around it. -

Core controller is the wand. You can't rely on everybody to buy extra bits and bobs for the console! The games will have to be made with the wand in mind.

Wanna bet?
Nintendo: How will Super Smash Bros. on the Wii take advantage of the controller?
Masahiro Sakurai: Well I almost feel a little uncomfortable getting this question directly after Mr Miyamoto, but we've actually been working with some different ideas and we've found that trying to implement too much of the pointing device or the motion sensing stuff gets a little bit in the way of the gameplay so rather than just trying to implement too much of that in the game we're trying to keep the control simple as it has been and allow people to play in that sense. Of course you all probably know that the Wii hardware has sockets for the GameCube controller as well so I'll just say now that you may not want to throw away your GameCube controllers just yet.

Registered 17 years agoFair enough, if Smash Brothers comes with the controller you need to play the game.
But, it's not cool that if you want to play with your friends, they'll need to pick up that controller too, in addition to the additional wands you got so that they could play with you in the first place. -

Could you link to where it says that? I thought they said the game doesn't really use the motion sensitivity, but I didn't see anywhere that it was use only the classic controller. -
Well they said it will use the Gamecube controller. But you can go and find it yourself. It was in an interview on IGN I think.
