Registered 18 years agoFrom IGN:
"We found that trying to implement too much motion-sensory functionality can get in the way of the game. We're looking at keeping the control simple, as it has been," said Sakurai. "The Wii hardware has sockets for the GameCube controller, too. So I'll just say now that you may not want to throw away your GCN controller yet."
From that I read that you'll be able to use your GameCube controller to play, not that you'll only be able to use the GameCube controller, but I could be wrong. -

Registered 18 years agoReally, so by saying that they removed rumble due to its upsetting the motion sensing was a lie, because, call me crazy, but the system they are using will be completly thrown by the pad vibrating.
Yes, also id say the dispute with immersion was a factor in this.
Im just sick of all this conspircy theory crap. -

Registered 16 years agoWell, most games which are intended to be relesed on the Wii as well as the PS3 and/or 360 will certainly not be developed primarily for the Wii, that's for sure, due to the fact that it's graphically inferior. They will be developed for the other system(s) first, and then toned down and ported over to the Wii. So, this may well result in some games being ported which only have basic tilt functionality, and therefor don't take full advantage of Wii's controller.
However, the same goes for any games created primarily for the Wii. If they create a game which is heavily reliant on the Wii's controller, and then decide to port it over to the other two systems, it's highly likely that the 360 version will plain suck (due to the fact that it's still using a pretty much standard controller), and the PS3's version will be a lot more basic (perhaps to the point of sucking, perhaps not), due to the fact that it's controller is not quite as advanced.
Personally I think once the system is released (providing it's fairly successful) there are going to be a lot of interesting games released exclusively for the Wii, so I don't think it's worth worrying about (or concerning ones self with) those inevitable sucky ports coming from other consoles.
EDIT: You know, it just dawned on me that it's entirely possible that the classic controller (which will be used for older games) also features some kind of basic tilt/movement detection, much like Sony's controller and/or the nunchuck. If they did indeed include that inside the classic controller too, it would make it almost exactly the same as the PS3 controller, and thefefor any PS3 games which are ported over could easily be played on the Wii.

For my money, there will be no porting of PS3 games on to the Wii because IMHO there will be fuck all use of the tilt sensors in their games. Plus, even if there were, the tilt sensing combined with the dual shock 3 (if I can still call it that) button and analogue stick layout would not readily map on to the Wii controllers, unless - as my esteemed colleague mderbyshire suggests - the classic controller had tilt sensors too.
