Amazing, really. Can't wait for this. The only problem I can see it having is that little worlds be sort of too small and won't offer anything memorable.

It does leave me wondering where the game ends.

Why not just find some more planets? The universe is rather on the infinite side of large, after all.

You could apply the same logic to GTA games (except the infinite part, of course). Invisible walls, ahoy.

But that's the beauty of this design as was pointed out in the other thread. This design means there are no invisible walls, just a finite amount of planets.

Also the number of planets in the universe isn't infinite, it's just fucking loads. And I somehow think that Miyamoto ain't trying to do an accurate simulation of the universe! That's Will Wright ;)

It's not confirmed as a launch title yet, is it? From what I heard Miyamoto said that he didn't want to commit to a date as yet as he has a tendency to upset the balance of things if he gets an idea.
  • Deleted user 19 May 2006 18:20:37
Not confirmed as launch. Probably won't make it, IMO.

Not sure about that boss, but I loved those launcher things that you stretch back with the wiimote to launch Mario! Great Idea! :)

    This game already owns me.

When the Wii comes out, I may very well never sleep again. :(

From a planetGamecube interview with Nintendo EAD's Takashi Tezuka:

TT: This was a show floor build. It was made condensing a bunch of little stuff to make it very easy for people to see what's incorporated in parts of the game. So rather than a specific hub—again, it's a show floor version of the game.
And right now, as an additional comment, the Super Mario Galaxy world that you're seeing…I think a lot of people are saying, "Wow, this is brand new, this is taking Mario out of this…" But once we get the thing completely finished and you see the game in its entirety, I think people will feel that it fits right in with Mario, and there will not be any sort of "this doesn't belong" feeling.

Also, as an aside it mentions he's "getting ready to ramp up on a Wii title that was not shown or announced." Hmmm, wonder what that is?

I think that, as we have seen, there will be worlds of many different sizes. I'm sure that they can be huge as well. In fact, I'd be very surprised if there weren't at least a few worlds where you were chasing a rabbit around a very large (but still recognizeable) sphere.

Super Mario Galaxy is indeed looking very promising. If it doesn't make launch day, we can only hope that it won't take too long to hit the shelves, because it'd certainly have high priority on my list of games to purchase.

I hope they release this demo with every Wii purchased! (if it isn't a launch game of course). Hmm I did hear that Wario Ware would be bundled with the Wii however.

    :o

You might be talking about Wii Sports/Music though?

The more I think about it the more I think that, even if it's ready, this wan't launch with the Wii because they've already got Metroid and Zelda on day and date.

Nintendo have learnt from their mistakes with the GameCube that you need a good steady stream of quality titles throughout the first year of a consoles life so saving this for a couple of months, then launching SSBB a couple of months after will keep the launch momentum going.

Sorry deathgibbon, I should have said:

Hmm I did hear that Wario Ware might be bundled with the Wii however.

But it was Warioware I heard about, not Wii sports/music :)

    I think SMG's universe should be donut-shaped.
  • Deleted user 19 May 2006 19:21:48
Isn't it based in a galaxy, not the universe? Therein there would be a finite number of planets?

/ponders an end to the peculiar debate

Actually, if you want to get all technical, there is a finite number of planets in the Universe as well, to the best of our knowledge.

    ------------------------------------------

There, I've drawn a line under all this astronomy crap. Let's save that for another thread.

Let's just keep this a Super Mario Galaxy Love-In. Actually, does anyone (other than Mario haters, I know some people just don't "do" Mario) not like the look of this game?

I'm sort of gutted Mario's head doesn't explode, but apart from that...
