What price should the Wii retail at?

IMHO, €200-250 max, or €250-300 max with a game thrown in. IGN have their own theories, but IMO, Nintendo needs to walk a fine line between being cheap enough for the mass market, but not too cheap. They need to be expensive enough to instill some confidence in the consumer, and also to leave themselves room for a price drop for when the price wars begin.

    Opinions?

I'll pay up to £150 in yen without a second thought, higher and I might need to think about it.

Even the PS3 doesn't look to bad value at £300 in yen. Having an HD TV suddenly makes Blue Ray look tempting.

A gizillion smezolians sounds like a fair price. That or 200-250 yo-yos

and also to leave themselves room for a price drop for when the price wars begin.
or the demand is just not there ;)

They should pay me after the miserable experience of owning their previous two consoles.

    I'm feeling generous. One Pound.

Its this like a virtual version of "Bruce's Price is Right"?

    What do you win?
  • Deleted user 26 May 2006 09:43:15
I'd spend a penny on it.

If it was bundled with a game.

And none of that Wii Sports nonsense. A proper game, like Mario.
  • Deleted user 26 May 2006 09:44:51
    Boo

    yah.
  • Deleted user 26 May 2006 09:49:42
    On its own: £99.99

    In a game bundle: £129.99

There should be 3 bundles, one for the mario fans, one with a wii remote based silly game like wii sports and one with the most violent cliche ridden 50 cent-esque game out at launch.

I'd have swamped this forum with Wii so fast, you'd have drowned before you even noticed the stench.

I would buy it if it was £99 for the machine and about £25 - £30 for the games. I wouldnt pay more because the games visually look no better than the gamecube, why they couldnt just have released this motion controller for the gamecube is beyond me.

SMG looks absolutely gorgeous so that statement is a bit of.
I´d gladly pay about 199£ at launch. Most likely that´s wher it´s going to wind up as well....

Because very few people would buy it?

Really? Nintendo said this week that the price would be in line with that of US and Japan. That works out at £134 - They said US price won't exceed $250.
Plus VAT, I doubt it'll get past £150. Based on Nintendo's recent comments, there's no reason to expect to be paying more than that.

I think the price of games (RRP) is more of an undetermined issue, and as such more interesting to discuss, really.
I think £39.99 is an acceptable amount for most, for the games to remain accessible to the mainstream. Project: HAMMER will probably end up being sold cheaper, though! :p

€250 for the console, two controllers and WiiSports.
    But that is 'should'.
Nintendo should have the basic package with two controllers for the 'inclusive' gaming stuff they've been talking about at every oppertunity (plus dev's will make sure their games will include 2 player modes at the least).
And including WiiSports or something similarly simple for a good demonstration of what the Wii does yet not quite impressive enough to be sold as a full game on it's own.
  • Deleted user 28 May 2006 17:58:24
I think a better question might have been, "What would you not pay at retail for a Wii?"! The answer to that in my case is anything over €300 for the basic package. I'd still get it, but I'd be forced to wait until the prices came down.

Over €300 would be totally wiidiculous.

€300 with a game and two controllers maybe.

I wouldn't pay more than 20p for a Wii, that's how much it costs for a Wii in Sheffield's public toilets, so why would I pay over the odds?
  • Deleted user 28 May 2006 18:05:52
£200 with a game and controller would be the sweet spot for me.
