The McDonalds What's a Flat White ad is particularly bad, because it's the ultimate straw man fucking ad. UGH look at this pretentious barista! Isn't he awfully patronising! You don't want that do you? You want a simple down to earth lass who just tells you what the hell a flat white is, no fuss. So don't go to an independent coffee shop, come to us! Come to us!! We're good for you.
I also dislike the 'look at these uneducated plebs who think our food is filled with nasty shit' ads McDonalds are running at the moment

I find the current Marmite ads to be quite fun.

How are you guys even seeing adverts anymore? It's so easy to cut them out entirely.

@KRadiation Apart from sport, what TV needs to be watched live through fear of a diminished experience?
  • Deleted user 24 February 2018 03:49:37
@David_Richardson catch up tv like Channel 4 forces you to watch adverts and not everyone has a recorder for tv. Some people just like watching TV or just seeing what's on telly

No idea. We just watch things live because we can. Doesn't make sense not to put something on and watch it when im sat there... just so I can record it for later to skip ads.

I just want something to complain about. I normally turn over when the programme starts and look for more adverts.

The action man or GI joe or whatevrr one for one of those comparison sites made me quite sad in that it seems to be stop motion and there is so much time and effort to create something so fucking pointless and stupid to advertise a nebulous piece of shit. Blergh, hate it.

Only caught the end of that the other day, but I'd be pretty sure it's all CGI these days. They've got it easy compared to old Harryhausen, I tells thee.

@mal i am not sure, it seems natural for it to be stop motion considering the figures you may well be right. Either way it is a shitty use of skilled people's time.

There's a lot of swapping heads there to get those eyebrows to move in there. I doubt your classic stop motion artists would have bothered with all that. They are at the very least trying to make you think it's stop motion though.

I reckon we crossed the line with people wasting the computer wattage to do shitty adverts with the meercats, or possibly before that. IIRC we had CGI in adverts long before we had CGI in movies - I've got a book which has a freezeframe from a kellogs advert from the 1980s to loop the milk and contain all the liquid reflections to make it look kind of real.

I actually think the Action Man advert is great. There are so many little nods to the figures and their articulation. Plus it's so camp :)

I like the notion that a stop motion animator couldn't be arsed to swap heads for the desired effect. Spending painstaking hour upon painstaking hour striving for the desired effect is what those sadists do for a living!
