    Would've rather had arcade R-Type.

Three great games - the R-Type port was the most faithful home console version at the time. Let's hope they include Dragon's Lair, as well (or Wonderboy III as it's more commonly known), one of the greatest 8-Bit games ever.

I'm really looking forward to the retro aspect of the Wii, I hope they release chrono trigger. Would quite like to play that but dont want to pay the crazy ebay prices. Does anyone know roughly how much the games are going to be, is it going to differ from platform to platform or game to game ?

I have wondered about the rare old SNES releases. What will happen to the second hand market?

Also, if Hudson are on board... does that mean we'll get Bomberman 64? Because I personally loved it.

They'll probably drop in price, but I wouldn't be able to guess too much. As you probably know, the value depends on the rarity of the game as well as how many people actually want it (supply and demand of course), and if it's common enough for people to access it off-hand, then the value will definately decrease... substantially? I wouldn't put my money on it. In general, the supply of the game will simply increase. At the end of the day it's not like they are actually manufacturing more and more copies of the actual SNES cartridges and boxes though, so the supply of them shouldn't actually increase also.

However, I'm sure that the biggest group of people buying such old editions are collectors and completists, and thus they'd still buy as much for the physical copy rather than the data on a memory card. You'll probably end up losing some interest from the minority of people who actually buy the games to play them. And thus the supply of the game shouldn't decrease too much either.

I'd say that the N64 market will probably be hit the worst.

    But in summary...

Supply of the game data = go up.
Supply of the physical game = unaffected.
Demand for the game data = go down.
Demand for the physical game = go slighly down.
The more I think about it, the more I conceive that the prices should remain relativly unchanged.

Superb, probably spent more time playing PCEngine R-Type on my PSP than any other game. Loved it then, love it now.

It's good, yeah. Probably the best home version. But it's no arcade original.

Please call it the PC Engine. Was a good conversion. Only half the game and plenty of sprite flicker but still good.

As much as I hate the name TG16, that's what it was called here in the UK. It was only called the PC Engine in Japan, IIRC.

TG16 was the US name, never received a UK release. PC Engine > TG16.

edit - Great choices for the first three games, bring on Gunhed, Super Star Soldier etc.

Ah yes, of course. Forgot about that. :)

Anyway, forgot the main one - Castlevania! I wonder if that'll be released?

That was a CD-Rom game so fairly unlikely I'd say.

Don't forget that people who just want to play the games have been able to get them as emulator ROMs for ages. The crazy high prices are, as you say, driven by people wanting to own physical copies of the games.

Fair enough - but seeing that there are downloadable PSOne games for the PSP, anything's possible. It is unlikely though, unfortunately.

Crispy - yes, although it has quite a few different names. Apparently the best in the series as well, so I'm keen to play it.

True. It's definitely doable, compress the music tracks to MP3 and the overall file size would be pretty small, maybe 20mb. Here's hoping, it's a great game.

I shouldn't worry - with the attitude taken to reissuing games (even the upcoming Squenix PS1 reissues in Japan aren't of any really hard to find stuff) and MS's BC attitude to draw our data from I'm sure Ninty will find some 'mysterious' 'problems' getting any of the really rare titles to work. That, or they'll region lock the service and only release them in Japan.

    Better SOTN? w00t \o/
If it's the same Dracula X I played over emulation a few years ago, I don't think it's better than SOTN. IIRC it has a level structure a bit like mario world instead of the free-roaming castle. Of course, some folks might prefer it like that.

Not at all. I'd read about it on forums and heard good things about, so because I would never have any chance of owning it I downloaded the game and used an emulator.

I do remember enjoying it, but SOTN is just the better game. All imo, of course. :)

EDIT: I should stop being so stand-offish and briefly explain why I think SOTN is better, really.

"Dracula X" doesn't have any of the RPG elements that SOTN had; there is no levelling up, there is no collecting of new and more powerful weapons, there is no romping round a castle, uncovering secret passages. It's essentially an enhanced Castlevania 4, which isn't really a bad thing, but it's just much more limited in scope than SOTN.

Like Onny said, it's linear like the SNES version, rather than the free-roaming Metroid-style gameplay of SOTN (and the GBA titles). That doesn't make it bad, just that different people prefer different styles (I thought the SNES version was superb).

Also, another draw is that it has anime cut-scenes, and (I think) speech as well.
