Nice guys, eh.
Fanatical ideologists. -
Hmm not heard about that, I'd agree that not taking that torrent down is in amazingly bad taste. Freedom is important, but I think everyone could find some common ground in not having pictures of dead kids available online..... Y'know, most normal people anyway..... -

Bloody hell that makes me cross, very surprising verdict, no doubt they'll appeal.
This verdict is irrelevant. They will appeal and it won't be until the supreme court decision, a few years from now, when we get a final verdict. Also, theis is a decision where only one of the judges is a legal professional and the rest are layman judges.
All in all, good PR for The Pirate Bay. -

Bad PR because people will be afraid to use it
Doubt it, was the operators of the site that got in trouble, not the users. They'll go right on downloading. -

The risk for the users of pirate bay is not affected by this decision. The only thing that happens is that TPB get free publicity, and that The Pirate Party get a nice boost in their EU Parliment campaign . -

Yep, google worked better for torrents than TPBs search ever did. -

Not just torrents really, I can find the vast majority of media I want to pirate by simply Googling for Rapidshare/MegaUpload files, as well as the odd torrent. -

Registered 16 years agoDidn't America basically force the Swedish government to take this to court even though it isn't actually illegal their? -

Yes, which is why this decision doesn't matter, apart from being great publicity for TPB and campaign material fot the Pirate Party, since it is sure to be appealed and will be decided in higher instances. -

Registered 16 years agoThing is, they wilfully, deliberately, set it up to aid people infringe copyright. Even after they got in to trouble about it, they did nothing to try and prevent people using the site for piracy.
It's a bit like saying you should get away with killing someone by knocking someone down because all you were doing was driving down the road and although you could see someone running towards you and knew they'd hit your car and even moved your car to the left so you KNOW you'd hit them, it isn't your fault because driving a car on the road is not in itself wrong.

Well, exactly. This isn't entirely surprising.
The comments on their blog are quite amusing, the way their fans write you'd think these guys were civil rights campaigners who were being tortured or something, rather than some clever Swedish chaps offering loads of movies, games, books, music and TV series to download for free. I download something almost every day, largely movies and TV shows, but I'm not deluding myself into thinking I'm fighting The Man by grabbing a DVD rip off usenet. -
Did they make any money off TBP? -

From reading the bbc, I thought that they were found guilty of copyright infringement? I didn't even know there was such a crime as 'aiding the illegal downloading of copyright material'. The thing is, morally of course they're in the wrong, but legally I thought their case seemed pretty good. I was expecting a fine at the most... -
