Can anyone offer advise on this lens?

    Sigma 17-70mm f/2.8-4.5 DC Macro

I'm planning on ordering it tomorrow morning as I do not have anything at that low focal lengh (28mm is my lowest). And It's Macro which I'd like to have as well. There has been a couple of times when I've really needed that wider angle!

Trouble is, it's a Sigma, and I have no idea what to 'expect' from it. Anyone got any thoughts?

It's made for digital, reasonable apature diameter, and "A maximum magnification of 1:2.3 enables extreme close-up photography".

    1:2.3 okay?

I'll (eventually) be getting that 'impossible to get' 18-200 Nikon VR lens too, so I'm hoping this might 'compliment' it.

    Edit:
    My present kit is:

    Nikon D50
    Nikon 50mm f 1.8
    Nikon 28-80mmf3.5/5.6G AF

Friend of mine bought it for her new Canon 350D (instead of the kit-lense). It doesn't keep the 2.8-aperture for very long, but it's sharp and has a nice rage. I don't think you could find a better lens for the money. Didn't have the time to try it out in macro mode, but the focusing was fast and my friend is very happy with it.

The lens itself isn't up to Sigma EX class in terms of build quality, but still good. I'd go for it, ideal 'walk around' lens.

Thanks reflux. I'm going to hold off getting it just yet.

Anyone else have any thing to say on this?

I have a D70 with a Sima 18-200mm (similar FStop) and although I'm quite new to digital photography I've been very impressed with the results so far. I also know a couple of others with Nikon & Sigma lenses.
