Registered 15 years agoI watched him a few times as I was very curious to see what he was like now having bombed at Spurs. Honestly I never saw anything that made me think he’d changed a huge amount. He’s tidy and safe, but he hides. I’m not surprised they’ve got rid. I am suspicious about the nature of the deal in the first place. -

Registered 12 years agoI can't see why Ronaldo wouldn't go, it's a slower league, probably giving him 5 more years at the top, a new challenge, still able to compete in champions league?
And Madrid basically get what they paid for him. -

Registered 12 years agoHe's proved himself worthy of the price tag definitely.
He'd probably be Neymar level of money if he was still in his peak. -

I'm convinced it'll happen (if it isn't already a done deal). Makes too much sense for all parties involved - there's not much more he can do at Real, he'll go to a club where he'll remain the star player (unlike at PSG), and it gives him a genuine chance of winning the CL with 3 different clubs.

It's probably a fudge for non-EU players or something. At least I hope it's that rather than anything more dodgy.

Registered 15 years agoI can’t really see how it would benefit them in terms of FFP. -
I suppose, they were worried salaries+amortisation of the value paid to them was going to be too high to bring him into their accounts this year so loaned him out to offset these costs?
Maybe it was just a part of the deal with the Chinese club but then you would expect Barca to have enough pull to avoid things like that? -

Registered 15 years agoYeah, I get loaning him out to save paying his wages. But it feels more like there was some thing dodgy in the initial deal. It's a very weird one. -
Honestly, i was kinda looking at it but seeing the Mbappe deal.
Like, the Mbappe to PSG deal was clearly done with a view that Naymer was going to leave a year after arriving and they had to keep him off the books until that happened whilst making sure no one else could buy him.

Registered 15 years agoI don't really get how that relates to the Paulinho thing, but it doesn't really matter. I'm probably just being thick. -
What i meant was i didn't really look into the Paulinho deal and just assumed it would be a similar deal, they expect to get a few mega buys this year and want to make sure their accounts match... but then Paulinho was only €40m so i don't see that as they case.
It is really rather strange now i have looked at it. -

That leaves Juve. Does it really benefit them to spend £300 million (the number seemingly being talked about, including wages on a 4yr contract) on a 33 year old, who'll be 37 by the end of his contract? Ronaldo or not, that seems like it could be spent better elsewhere...

Registered 12 years agoIf it guarantees another few league titles and a better shot at that elusive CL title then maybe. It looks likely unfortunately, just when I was hoping that someone could finally topple their monopoly on the Serie A title. Napoli shitting themselves in the last month of the season was really disheartening. -

It probably won't seem like that much when you factor in shirt sales, marketing opportunities etc. Plus Ronaldo looks like he'll be able to keep going at the top level for at least 2-3 years still.

Looks like it's pretty much done...
Neymar to Real Madrid now, perhaps?
