    UncleLou, would this perhaps help?

Oh, cheers, that's exactly my error message!

I don't have that dll in the system32 folder though, hm.

Quite annoying - that's the first game or demo in years that doesn't work on my PC.

Damn, that's really irritating. Still, at least 3 other posts on various interweb sites stated that deleting the file should remove the issue. Are you sure it's not hidden or something? Or maybe reverse psychology could work - you can always put the file* in the system32 folder by yourself. ;-)

    *should be safe to download

Un- and reinstalling it for the third time, running crapcleaner in between, afixed it. \o/

Cheers again pauley, I really appreciate the effort even though it fixed itself. :)

No worries, mate! Have fun with the demo, I certainly enjoyed it for the whole 5 minutes I was able to play (sometimes married gaming is definitely FTL... ;-).

Fun demo, the combat kicks* the crap out of Oblivion's by a long, long way. Enemies are affected by your hits and it feels so much more realistic.

Unfortunately it shows that my PC is creaking and needs upgrading stat! Trying to run this Source engine game at the same settings I can run HL2:Episode 1 shows it's likely doing a bit more in this.

A good thing about Source of course is the native support of 16x10 so 1440x900 works perfectly.

Not finished the demo but I'll be buying this that's for certain.

*those who have played the demo are probably groaning at that awful bit of double meaning... Hahaha!

/watches as Source engine makes sweet love to his 16:10 widescreen monitor

Perfect, now for the download to finish...

Right, let's not beat about the bush here. This has serious GOTY potential. :D

Top demo. Every bit as good as the videos suggested it would be.

Shame the multiplayer looks shit but then there's really no reason to care about the multiplayer if the singleplayer is anything like Arx Fatalis (it looks a lot better than Arx Fatalis).

If they optimize the game to run better the multiplayer could be fantastic.

Played the main section a few more times - pretty neat, the orcs do not know where you are if you're out of sight and then hide. They also react to the weapon you have - draw the bow, and they zig-zag towards you so they're harder to hit.

Some run away from you and cower in fear when they're hurt. That's the right time to decapitate them. :D

Is Dark Messiah a PC only game or is it coming out for the Xbox 360?

This is a wicked game, it felt like quite a short demo, considering the download size, but then half of it was the tutorial. Some brilliant physics going on and beautiful graphics, its everything I hoped Oblivion would be.

    Cant wait for October...

Yes, I was wondering a bit about the file size, too, after finishing it.

To those people comparing it to Arx or Oblivion though: mind that it's much more like a first person, well, shooter in the way the game is designed. There are some stats you can improve, but the game is mission-based, and about the fighting rather than role-playing. :)

Although its not really a fair comparison to Oblivion there are plenty of parts of DMoM&M that would have improved Oblivion immensely if implemented. The combat for a start. Combat in this is fluid and brutal with awesome finishing moves and a feeling of realism. Combat in Oblivion was dire to say the least and seems it was tacked on as an afterthought to picking flowers. Obviously DM doesnt have the depth and freedom of Oblivion but in a way that is a good thing, how many people played Oblivion and found themselves incredibly bored after a few hours and with a an increasing feeling of loneliness comig over them?

Not a rat in sight either :)

And the idea of using your surroundings to your advantage is brilliant. How many people cut the rope in that room with the orcs and then shit themselves? or realised that they were fighting under a precarious ledge held up by only a weak support. not to mention kicking people over ledges by luring them out by chucking a box around? :)

This is really good but its basically a first person sword game rather than an RPG in my opinion - and for that reason I think I prefer Oblivion.

It has a nice combat system - but I am quite happy with the one in Oblivion - it does feel as though there is more substance behind blows etc though ill give it that.

    Half Life with swords.....

I've been hassling you about online comic stuff etc. If the e-mail's right then I guess you're just ignoring me. :D

Has anyone got a decent download link for this, 'cos I'm fucked if I'm wasting another 4 hours for a corrupt download!

You can either try again from gamershell or wait 8 hours for the 3Dgamers one.
