Surely this is such an obvious idea, singstar out of the box=massive sales? Just wondering if anyone has heard anything similar really..

it has a speaker, which im im not mistaken is essentially exactlly the same as a mic? It would just require teh console to be built for it to be both.

Given the DS has a liny little mic, i would be amazed if there was not a seperate mic though

you think a speaker is the same as a mic? lol - Naice!

Well, technically it is. I've used really really shitty microphones as speakers.

A dynamic microphone is the same a s a speaker in that they are both EM coils attached to a microphone, so can be used either way.

Yep. The basic mechanics behind both are the same and you can definitely use a standard* small speaker as a mic ... much like you can use electric motors as dynamos and vice-versa. Done it many times.

    *Piezo-electric (sp?) speakers wouldn't work I'd guess.

I did that at a party once. A girl started MCing (if that's a word) really bad and we all had a laugh. It was great.

Well isn't the Wii going to have some sort of online element and a friend list and what not. Sort of like Xbox Live I'd assume.

Surely you'll want to be able to chat to yout friends/opponents whislt you play online together.

    It'd better have a mic!

TBH - I think it's more likely they'll do a wireless headset. Having a mic in the controller would be too awkward to try and speak into it while you play a game at the same time - it'd be like having a mic in a PS2 pad, you'd have to keep raising it to your face to speak into it.
Acutall, it'd be worse than that as the Wiimote is motion-sensitive, so it'd be impossible to raise the controller to your mouth to speak without making it impossible to play the game - e.g. think trying to aim and shoot in an online FPS while at the same time bringing the aiming controller to your mouth to speak ;-)

A proper mic head that slots into the remote would be the kind of thing to sell with a Singstar-alike.

To be blunt, no it won't. This has already been confirmed by Nintendo. However, they are not ruling out a wireless headset/microphone.

However... It would have been a good idea. The reasoning behind not putting one in the Wiimote was due to the effect it would have on the production costs of the controller. Saying that, it would be better to have a specific controller (a la the Singstar microphone) to ensure it is made of quality components. The DS mic isn't exactly of the highest standard now is it... :o)

Surely it would be a no-brainer for online chat without games.

Speaker in the top, mic in the bottom and het presto it becomes a phone.

The controller that does everything- wow!

    Change the TV channel?

    Cut bread?

    Paper weight?

    Maybe even play games?

    ;)
