Hi, my name is thehat and I want to trade my PSP.

/looks around the circle for support

I don't know where it all went wrong. I bought my PSP last year and to start with we had a great time. There was GTA and Lumines and that was cool, then there was PES and Gripshift and that was cool too.

Then something started to change within me. It seemed like my psp just didn't fit in my hands anymore. It became uncomfortable to hold and operate. I started reading books rather than spend time with it. - god, when did my psp become an it? - Now it sits on a shelf and I can barely bring myself to touch it.

I started to believe that portable gaming wasn't for me. Maybe games just aren't the same when they're less than nineteen inches, maybe without HD there really is no point.

Then this week a heavenly light shone upon me. Settlers is to be released on the DS. Suddenly I was struck by the truth that this forum has preached for as long as I have been coming here. I need a DS. And so to the point:

    1) Is there anywhere in London that you guys recommend for trading a PSP value pack for a DS? Game say £80, is there a better deal I should know about?

    2) What one game do you recommend above all else? I want something with a bit of longevity both for one session (say a long journey) and for about a months worth of gaming.

Please bless me with your wisdom, oh mighty forum /o\

    1. Someone somewhere will swap your PSP for a DS. Don't fill Game's pockets with money!

    2. No one game exists IMO. But great 2 game combos (one arcade like, the other long journey like):

Get Mario & Luigi: Partners in time + Zoo Keeper for best in breed.
Or Tetris DS + Mario Kart for online play combo
Or Brain Training + Lost In Blue for an intellectual slant
Or Polarium + Age of Empires: Age of Kings for long term playing!

Do you mean on the PSP? What games in particular?

My issue isn't really with the games (although there are issues there!!), I just don't like the console. It seems too big, and yet the buttons seem small and fiddly(sp?), and I'm not bothered by it's music and video capabilities as my mp3 player is easier to use and smaller.

    Edit: @ herod

I flogged my PSP on eBay and did quite well of it - mind you, that was in the run-up to last christmas. If you flog it yourself you'll always stand to make more money than using a shop.

Oh, and Advance Wars DS for the strategy longevity win! :-D
Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow also has much-o longevity, but it seems kinda hard to find as I haven't seen it on the shelves (new or 2nd hand) in the shops for a long time.

I had thought about eBay, but I'm holidaying this weekend and I don't fancy taking the PSP. I'd much rather support a trusted and friendly indie than the game monster.

I used think I would get both, but the PSP has sat on the sidelines for so long I don't think it's worth keeping.

    Oh yea, question 3:
I remember reading people commenting on the build quality of the DS lite. Has this improved and/or have any of the quality issues proved serious?

    What firware version is it?

    What motherboard does it have?

    What condition is it in?

Have you the box and accessories?

    How much?

How would you take payment, paypal, cash? ARe you in the UK?

As long as it isn't a FW 2.7, a TA02 motherboard, scratched, or has dead pixels then i will buy it off you at the right price.

Can collect and pay cash if you in south england else will have to be paypal and recorded delivery. Uk only no overseas.

Yeah I've been thinking on and off of getting rid of mine, since Sony seem intent on locking down the console against any interesting homebrew stuff with every single update and a severly boring release shedule (up till recently)

G&G looks pretty promising though so I'll be hanging onto it for a while longer me thinks.

Mine has been fine - but a fair few punters have had the odd stuck/dead pixel. I haven't heard of anyone I know (or on this forum) who've had a cracked hinge. But everyone that's had stuck/dead pixel has exchanged at the shop they bought from and Nintendo have said they will fix/replace units that get cracked hinges as well, so I wouldn't worry about it - jsut check the unit over when you get home and get the shop to replace it if you have dodgy pixels anywhere.

Edge raved about it - so probably worth checking out at least - especially if you're an old G&G fan ;-)

I say hold on to your PSP if you want a mobile platform at all. I have had both and have come to the conclusion the mobile gaming is vastly over rated.

Perhaps if you commute to work or use public transport extensively you will find use for one, but personally I would rather have a book or my Ipod.

The PSP has G&G coming out which looks excellent and I almost wish I still had one for it plus theres the advantage of mobile movies. The DS is good for cramp though - giving it that is.

Yup - I'm a big fan of the AW and Fire Emblem series' :-)
I commute an hour and a half each way - so that's 3 hours a day. Hence my DS and GBMicro are indispensible.

The only problem is when you are just about to crush the last couple of enemy units after a huge campaign, but run out of time and have to get off the damn train.

The sticker on the box says G which is v2.01 apparently.

Not sure about the mb, my flatmate was checking it for me and he says there isn't a code on the top near the catch.

    No scatches or dead pixels.

I have the box, memory stick, screen cloth, padded case, headphones and adapter.

A sensible offer. Comes with PES, GTA:LCS, Gripshift, Wipeout and Champ Man.

    Based in London.

    Seems a little strange?

Personally I'm just beginning to really use mine. I had 2.5 firmware and since they got the downgrader working for that, and 4gig memorysticks came down to £85 things are a lot brighter.

Great having much shorter loading times playing from MS, and just figuring out transferring from DVD to PSP using PSP Video 9 and DVD Decrypter. I'm also looking into IRShell to let me play mp3's wirelessly from my PC.

In addition to the games folk have mentioned here, I'm also looking forward to Ace Combat.

Have you tried using PMPmod and avi to pmp?

the quality is SO much better, and (i think) the file sizes aren't any bigger.

    give it a google.

Yep, PMPMod is the way to go for PSP movies. And where did you get the £85 4 gig stick from?

Haven't tried PMPmod and avi to pmp yet. I'll have a look, but I'm happy (so far) with the quality PSPVideo9 is producing, and the most important thing for me is that it's easy to encode and playback the videos, and the DVDDecrypter/PSPVideo9 combo is pretty simple now I know it.

    Here's where I got my 4Gig stick from: http://www.picstop.co.uk/PSP-Memory
Although these guys are now out of stock.

I saw these prices in a couple of other places too though and assumed they had dropped all over. I thought about creating a thread but assumed I'd be olded.

Bloody hell, if I'd known about that price I wouldn't have got the 2gig for £60! You should have made a thread or something, at least pointed it out.

As for videos - AVI to PMP, is much, much simpler than PSP Video9 + DVD Decryptor. Just drag and drop any video file onto the program and it'll convert it all into the correct format ready to drop onto the PSP. I only started using PMP files a couple of weeks ago and it's a massive improvement, both in converting and playback, over normal PSP videos.
