If the kids can break a key; even a Nintendo console will be broken.
The disc slot is not jam proof either.
No Wii for the brokenkey household.

My TV screen is guaranteed to be covered in something unspeakable by "kids bedtime" every single day. Cheese spread is a fucker to get off if it dries. -

Registered 20 years agoNo not on launch day, but end of november. I'll get call of duty if it supports the wand, rayman, nfs carbon. [Edit] Actually I might take metroid instead of call of duty, except when I found out that the bosses are too hard to beat (damn you Mario and Luigi Partners in Time - couldn't finish the damn thing).

Registered 15 years agoWill definitely be getting a Wii on release day. I'll be there at midnight...which is funny because I only ever get excited by Nintendo midnight launches.
Why? Because it looks like it is going to be the best of the next-gen consoles by introducing a new way of playing your favourite games.
Which games? I'll probably get 3 or 4 at launch. Zelda TP is a definite. Metroid Prime 3 probably. Shame there's no Mario Galaxy or Warioware Smooth Moves at launch though

Registered 17 years agoDefinitely getting a Wii. Why? To play Nintendo games of course. Decent 3rd party support would be a nice bonus. -

If Zelda turns out to be awesome on the Wii I shall probably buy one early next year as I don't have a GC anymore. -

I imagine at least GAME will do this. Don't expect to get more than a tenner for your Cube, though.
Do you know if there will be any shops offering a sort of 'exchange your gamecube and we'll give you £x off your Nintendo Wii' kind of thing? -

Registered 17 years agoI'll probably get one because it looks like its a reasonable price, and you can't play Nintendo's own games anywhere else.
Zelda and Metroid day one, Mario, Mario Kart etc. to follow.
Oh, and the possibility of a Star Wars game using that controller to move your lightsaber is too tempting

Registered 18 years agoIll have one, and depending on what comes out Mario, Zelda, Metroid, Warioware and maybe Wii Sports. Also like the look of Tonys Downhill and more than likely Monkey Ball.
Why? Because Ive never been let down by them in the past. Ive had more than my moneys worth of fun out of all the Nintendo machines ive ever owned.
If the download service is ready at launch ill be havin a bit of N64 Pilotwings, PCEngine R-Type and Battle Tetris Gaiden for the SNES, assuming they are on there. Probably some others as well. Anyone seen any more details on that yet? -

Registered 17 years agoI have never gotten anything on launch day, but I still really want to get a Wii and I definitely will be in a possession of one by the end of 2006. My b-day is October 25th so it'll depend.
I'm a Ninty fan and hopefully this console will broaden my interests in third-party games as well. And I love the controller.
MP3 will be the first game I buy.
Other games I will get evetually include Zelda: TP, ExciteTruck and perhaps Rayman.
Depending on the reviews, I'll get Red Steel and Wii Sports. -

Registered 15 years agoI've not decided to be honest. I want one but I don't want to buy a launch one in case there are problems so I might buy a 360 when PS3 launches and get a Wii later on. -

Registered 20 years agoDefinately getting one, how else am I going to play all the Cube games I have been buying for half nothing recently.
I thought it might be at launch but launch titles could colour that and what's being released for the 360 around that time.
Sooo maybe. -

Registered 17 years agoMost likely. Depends on the price. There are some games that I want and it seems fun. But only if they price it below 250 € and release the games I want. -

uh what, IR not able to see through the "jam"?
I was thinking that if the sensor required line of sight (becaue the front of the wand looks like an infra-red thingy), and then you put jam over the sensor, then the sensor won't be able to see through the jam.
do you live in a cave
No, but I buy expensive jam that has real fruity pieces in it. Last time I checked a whole strawberry did not allow light to pass directly through it.
What jam do you buy?
It's not IR though, it's based on a bluetooth protocol so no line of sight needed. New wireless protocols FTW! -

I would recommend against it unless it's somehow become an entirely new game on the Wii. The entire thing is an insult to the universe.

the waggle wand communicates via Bluetooth yes, but the pointer functionality requires line of sight to the sensor bar
There is no IR in the wii-mote.It is all done via bluetooth so no, you're wrong. -

It's two sensors spaced apart a certain distance, means you know two fix points in space and can calculate the position of a third if you have information about distance. Yuu need the position above or below the TV to determine tilt and pointing I suppose if as I think this is calculated with the positions of top and bottom of Wii-mote compared with the sensor bar. The accelorometer dosen't need a sensor bar since it only gives a direction and a movement absolute compared to the accelorometer itself...
At least if the design is based on triangulation, which is what I would do. -

Registered 18 years agoAre you going to Buy a Wii?
Yes, I've got one on pre order since E3 Nintendo pre show.
Why?
A few reasons:
*Mario Galaxy looks great
*I'm soooo damn curious about how it will work
*I want to be able to play Nintendo games since I love them
What games do you plan to buy on release day?
Zelda for sure. I'm not sure wich other games that are release titles. I'm thinkling that I might buy Wario Ware to get a lot of quirk and to support buy Red Steel to support third party games. -
This is from a gamespot (huwwaackk-ptuuii) hands-on
"The main issue I noticed was with Metroid--it seems as though the sensor array you attach to the TV expects your hands to be on a certain horizontal plane before it will respond to your movements. If you drop or raise your arms below the "strike zone" for any reason (for example, you put down the controllers to go to the bathroom, or drop your hands in disappointment after dying, or just get a little tired and drop your arms), then reacquiring the signal can be a tricky affair. In the meantime, the screen goes crazy and constantly spins you around or points you in one direction, not unlike an optical mouse that's going haywire. This issue came up more than a couple of times during my 10 minutes or so playing Metroid. When the sensors are locked in, the aiming and action with the remote and nunchuk work just fine. But the casual and non-gamers that Nintendo is supposedly trying to attract with this device may become frustrated if the kinks aren't worked out of the remote sensor."
