Don't get me wrong, I'm hopeful, I will get the Wii version as long as the control scheme is at least workable. I'm quite hopeful actually, but I'm just a little nervous, ya know...

IGN is reporting that in Miyamoto’s recent interview in Nintendo Dream (posted below), he also discussed some changes made to Twilight Princess. The biggest change to the controls is that now you will be swinging your Wiimote as if it were Link's sword. I personally am VERY excited with this new change, it is exactly how I envisioned the Wii version from the start. Nintendo had said in the past that they were worried gamers would get too tired playing a Zelda title like this, but it appears they have had a change of heart. Miyamoto himself is all for the new idea stating, "Upon actually playing it, it's more interesting this way."

I know this will most likely be a huge point of debate in the already raging war of TP GameCube versus TP Wii. I rarely state my detailed opinion of news stories on the site, but I felt I would throw in my two cents here. Yes, you may get tired while playing like this, and yes it may be more stressful… but I like it like that. I want to feel like I am actually Link, that I am actually doing what he is doing. I want the sweat dripping down my (fat Irish) head, getting in my eyes… I dig the thought of that intensity. I am ready for a Zelda challenge unlike any other. Once again I state that that is just my opinion. I completely understand and respect the other side of the arguement. I am sure there are plenty of people who don’t want to play TP this way. I guess this new decision may make the choice of purchasing GC or Wii TP a little bit easier!

Those aren’t all the changes though. Nintendo has also switched the firing of your bow and arrow from the D-pad to the B button. The B button used to be the button to control your sword, but as you now know, that button has been freed up.

What a great story to break just before I head to bed. HUGE thanks to Joe for hitting me up just as I was closing my email, I can't thank you enough! Man am I looking forward to waking up and reading the comments that come out of this story!
:D My frown's been turned upside down!!!

Sounds good, and adds weight to the arguement that people should hold off complaining about the controls and until they've played it.

In all fairness, I haven't been complaining. I was just concerned. FWIW, I think people have a right to be concerned, given Wii's radical paradigm shift. Cautious optimism FTW.

Fantastic. I'm sold. All I want know now is to know where I can get hole of a nice green costume and hat to wear while I play. And a fairy.

Oh! Wouldn't it be better though if you could hold the Wiimote like Epona's reins, so that you could do virtual 'horsey' - perhaps jumping up and down faster to make Epona go faster, and shouting 'Giddyup!' into the Wiimote (whether it has a microphone or not).

For the ultimate gaming experience, you understand.

    :o)

I can see there being a point at which Wiimote (over)use start to compromise the game experience. As long they include 'shortcuts' e.g. flick left/right etc, it should be ok. Pantomime sword-swinging really puts me off though.

You 're probably correct, though I fail to understand WHY they don't include both type of controls in the Wii game? Surely if the controls are good enough for GC, they'll be good enough for the Wii?

After all, they are the same game, no?

Edit: moved it to this thread form my own OLDED :) thread!

Marketing. That's why. they want to sell the idea of wii-makes too I guess...

Twiddle. I'm sure that it will be cool, and you only get 16:9 aspect from the Wii version, which is more than enough reason to endure a little "sword-swinging" in my book.

They would risk alienating fans of such an important game, but which is also not so mass-market and a bit of an acquired taste just for that?

And what would they gain by fans opting out for the GC version instead of the Wii one?

What would they lose by fans buying the GC version instead? I imagine it'll cost the same, so, it's no skin off their backs, right?

Well, it's not that simple. The GC has a large installed base, so they need to be selling Zelda on that in the crucial first three months. Also, they wish to bolster the Wii launch line-up. So, they need both.

Indeed, and also I would imagine that if they could swing anyone off the GC version and into buying the Wii version (with a Wii of course), it would be the best thing they could do!

Which is why I an baffled why they would opt for a strategy that will probably drive many toward the GC version...
