I'm going to get one and I'm wondering if the numberpad is too small to text with. The pics i've seen of it look like it does not slide out enough to have a very big keypad.. which would be a shame as I don't really like the clamshell one.

Linky to pics of all 3 in the range.

Linky to short review and more info on a 3g version coming in december.

Linky 3 to another good thread on it.

Looks like a slimmer d500 which is the phone i have. Not bad but a few flaws. I find it awkard to text using only one hand ( resting phone in fingers and using thumb to text ) as the key pad is a bit small and too close to the bottom of the phone so it feels very unbalanced. Samsungs messaging system annoys me too, if there are no names in your list and you click the middle button it just tells you there are no names in the list rather than taking you to your contacts.
For me the numpad keys are fine in size but they need a bit more definition. I'm not keen on the new phones that just have a sheet of metal with the key symbol on it. Too little haptic feedback for my liking.
I do like the look of it though and i'm tempted to see if i can get one when i upgrade in a while.

    I just got a D900

It's fucking great, the 'UltraEdition' range from Samsung (of which this is one) are clearly the best out there at the moment...

Just got off the phone to Vodafone and have secured one of these as an upgrade. What are your impressions of it now you've had it a few months?

It does look nice, but considering how much i HATE my D600, I think im going to give it a miss and go for a Sony Ericsson next time.

Actually, carlo, since you have one could you tell me whether the following pains in the arse have been fixed?

Unable to use custom text alert

will not ring and vibrate at the same time

MP3 ring tones quiet for 5 seconds then burst into life

Unable to install any java applications without serious hax

Pathetic texting function and poor T9 dictionary

    and a few other things.....

    cheers!

I have a D900 as my work mobile and it is a nice little handset. Maybe the only minor issue I have is that the battery indicator stays full for a day or two then suddenly will go down to one bar then off without much warning annoying especially if you don't have your charger around.

Minor problem though with what is a nice handset.

I've got one, and its very nice but I had two big gripes about it
    1) it shows all the numbers on your sim and on the phone, and you can't make it show only one or the other. Not very good when you then sync it with your contacts in outlook.

    2) the network security on java requires you to approve every network connection. So using opera mini requires this approval for each and every link you click when browsing the web. I eventually stopped using the phone because of this.

The feedback when back to the manufacturer so it might all be fixed by now.

For the other owners, did you know that if you take the phone abroad the House of Parliament wallpaper changes to something more relevent to where you are?

When we did that S.T.A.L.K.E.R. trip to Chernobyl one of the PR ladies had a D900 which did, indeed, change its wallpaper the minute we landed in Ukraine. I can't remember what it changed to, however.

What's it like changing from one menu to another? I've got a Nokia 6230i at the moment and it takes forever to navigate the menus. Most of the time I select what I want from memory and wait for the bloody thing to catch up!

This really pisses me off about the D600. Has it only got about 3 user dictionary terms because i seem to always be adding the same words again and again?

Dude, I use it as a phone, and text on it sometimes, so I'm not authorative.

    text alert. No idea

    Ring + V does work

ring tones are like that, it's a safety feature (in case you ear is near the phone) - long story

    java apps no dea

texting (and T9) seems pretty normal to me.

OK, cheers. It just seem that they created a technically brilliant phone then destroyed a lot of its functionality in a focus group.

Mine arrived this morning, pretty impressed so far. Feels a bit weird using something that's laid out differently to a Nokia after all these years!

I've got the blue GPRS logo at the top of the idle screen on all the time at the moment. Is that supposed to happen? Can I get rid of it?

I noticed the G icon thing on mine today as well (had it since Friday),so I presume its supposed to be there.
  • Deleted user 24 January 2007 18:04:07
That's the 3G icon, most likely.

I looked it up in the booklet and the G is for GPRS.

    *bump*

I've had this phone for a few months on O2, but I've been having trouble with setting up its wap service. The get-settings function on the phone doesn't fix it, and the O2 website's get-settings function claims I've entered my mobile number wrong, both with and without the international dialling code.

    Anyone else got this problem?
