...just went in to town to get a hair-cut amongst other things. Only wanted a trim mind, but the first barber I talked to told me it would cost €13. I was horrified. So I told him point blank that that was outrageous for a straight-forward trim that'd take him 2 lousy minutes. He told me that the hair-dressers across the road did it for €12... >:(

Then, when I went there, thinking that if I got a hair-wash thrown in (which is basically a free scalp massage, with the occasional bonus boobie-scalp massage) it wouldn't be too shocking, the chick told me it would be €25 for a trim. I pointed out that the sign said "Gents: Wash, cut and blow-dry - €12", not "Gents: Wash, cut and blow-job - €25". She then said "Well, with your hair you'd be classified as, ehhh, a..." "Girl?" I asked. "Yes" she answered.

Eyebrow raisage... is this a true story or a joke that I somehow haven't quite got?

The cheapest hair cut I've found in my local vicinity is £10, which is more than 13 Euros. Come to think of it, where the fuck is my Euro key?

I pay 7.5euros with the free boobie on scalp massage and I think its expensive (I normally do the typical soldier cut), and most of the times I just cut on the sides... :(

Or were you crying about the fact that your hair makes you look like a girl?
I'm from Ireland, and I was whining about the fact that they wanted me to pay €25 for a trim that my ex-flatmates/ex-girlfriends used to do for me in about 3 minutes flat!!! It's not like it's a big job ya know... :'(

Best I found when I moved to the UK was £6 but that was a small barber with a high turn over of Polish, Czech, etc guys who seemed no more experienced at cutting hair then myself, so it was always a bit of a gamble.

I once went to a Toni & Guy because they were open late and it was the only chance to go that week and I REALLY needed a haircut. I didn't ask for the prices and was pretty shocked to be charged £35 for a simple wash & cut.

I've now found a middle ground with a small town barber that does the job for £12 or so.

For a standard 'man hair-cut' paying more than £10 is a joke innit? Except no substitute.

Ahh... Sweet nostalgia. (Correction: Paying £8 or more is a joke. And not a funny one).

    Hah. I pay €34 where I go.

See, they passed a law saying that you can't discriminate one sex against the other price-wise or age-wise. Meaning that both boys and girls now pay the same exorbitant amout to get into clubs but there's only one age restriciton, and that we all have to pay girlie fees for haircuts.

    Yay.

I pay £15...but got voucher though my door for £15 off in some posh place, so I might try it out as long as it doesn't cost my more than my normal hair cut.

I once didn't have a hair cut for a year because my usual upped it from 5 to 8 pounds and i was disgusted.

Just be thankful that you don't have to fork out as much as women do. The last haircut I had was cheap, about £17 I think. The one before that was £40 - despite the fact that it takes about five minutes to trim my hair as it's long and boring and has no layers or anything fancy and they just have to trim straight across the bottom. I am no skinflint (you should see how much I spend on magazines, ffs) but it's one thing I really begrudge paying for. I have actually gone into barbershops asking if they'd do it for me but they've always refused.

I cut Rutty's hair myself (ex-hairdresser, still got the knack!) but prior to meeting me, he hated having to go to the barbers.

Eh, did you read the first post? That was my complaint; I was being charged ladygirl prices.

The place I go charges very low prices, which is nice. I have a proper cut now and then but I don't have my hair washed or anything so they don't charge me for it. £7 well spent.

I did - that is NOT the average price for a lady's haircut. I would be hard pushed to find someone to cut my hair for €25 or the equivalent in £. Even in Ireland nowadays, I would imagine.

A_T, I wanted a trim, they said they charged €25 for that in this place because I was being treated as a girl, and €13 in the other because I wasn't. I can't make it any clearer than that...

I GOT it, jesus. All I was saying is that women are usually expected to pay far more for a haircut despite the fact that it doesn't necessarily take any longer than a bloke cut, which sucks. I wasn't talking about the fact that you were being treated like a girl, although of course that also sucks too. My post wasn't aimed at you, it was aimed at people in general who'd posted in the thread moaning about the price of a haircut.

I can't make it any clearer than that...
