Yeah, I see what you are saying. But it would make for such a nice DR/RE crossover setting. Enclosed area, lots of Z's. With some decent NPC AI it could be the sweetest game ever.

God, no. The hive has nothing to do with the real RE story..
O_O
It happened for real?
Err.. "official," then? The movies and the games should be kept apart.
Well maybe not ever but. -

Registered 19 years agoI think people have been quite overeactive here. Yes, I scored Gun Survivor 2 in a reader review of ages past a big, fat 0. And damn, that game deserved nothing more. But GS3 Dead Aim, while not superb, was not bad either. It was a capable and interesting title.
We also seem to be forgetting that Resi 4 was on that dangerous Survivor-style ground as well, and it worked for that.
Yes, I worry about the idea of chronicling the Resi story. To be honest, there's a lot in the Resi universe yet to explore; Where exactly are Claire and Chris now? How about Carlos and Barry, who escaped on that helicopter with Jill? Are Jill and the twins alright, and will we ever get to hug them? And what happened to little Sherry, the little girl who saw the most horrifying things imaginable and lost both her parents to the events in Raccoon City?
Plenty of scope there for a half dozen games... still. I guess there may be an overall point... -

Bump for not very good quality screenies. Possibly taken from that Wii trailer showreel thingy.
You might need to copy/paste the URL if you get an error when you click on it. -

I reckon it could stay the same as Resi 4. Except that when you press "R1" to aim (and the camera goes to your shoulder), you aim with the Wiimote.
Which sounds fantastic. -

Looks like the RE4 engine, so the visuals will be good atleast. -

Registered 18 years agoI'm not sure, I am certainly still interested, especially by the potential to thread a story through separate chapters from other games, but a quick fix action knock off wouldn't really be worth the Resi name. -

Well, I'm having problems seeing how these two bits:
-The game consists of 4 "chapters", RE1's mansion, RE2's RPD, RE3's city areas and RE4's village (plus surrounding areas).
-Similar to Devil May Cry 3, after each chapter you can save your data and any new weapons picked up will be available for use in Arcade Mode.
indicate anything other than Mercenaries, but expanded into a whole game. It would seem hard to tell a good, coherent and classis Resi-style story with 8 different characters over 4 completely different environments, when you can only save 4 times in the game.
Would love to be proved wrong though, I love those games. -

I think you misunderstand the saving part.
As far as I see it you can save after each chapter is finished additionally to any saves you do during the game, which then add the weapons you might have found to the arsenal of the Mercenaries (more Mercenaries FTUW!!!) style game.
And seeing how Resident Evil already has one ongoing story line I think that it is entirely possible to make a coherent interconnected story that span all former parts.
After the utterly brilliant Resident Evil 4 I have a bit of faith in Capcom. -

Registered 15 years agoResi 4 was fantastic, and I'd be perfectly happy with that on the Wii, but with the aiming done purely with the remote.
If the save system works as you describe then that sounds fine, and in fact could add a nice RPG element if you could level-up a character in a Mercenaries-esque sub-game. Not sure how you could get that from the info above though, have I missed some other source? -

It is right there.
If I am reading that right it means as I mentioned above that what you unlock during the story mode is saved at the end of the chapter and made available for the Mercenaries mode.
So to me at least it looks like RE4 from the gameplay with a ‘new’ story, with the remote as aiming device, quick time events using gestures rather than buttons plus more Mercenaries.
Thus, although I can’t prove anything (sorry), I am quite optimistic. -

Registered 15 years agoWhat you describe is pretty much exactly what I'm after (though I'm not that fussed about Mercenaries, mainly because I suck at it
). Odd though, I read that same paragraph as meaning that you could *only* save after each chapter, which would probably indicate a very short, very arcadey game.
Guess the game won't be out for at least a year though, then we'll know for sure. -

Exactly what I was hoping for.
-The gameplay of all chapters is designed around RE4's. Press the B trigger on the wiimote to go into over-the-shoulder view, aim with the pointer and press A to fire. -

The tiniest piece of news possible, but enough to please some of you, I suspect.
Umbrella Chronicles confirmed to support 480p and 16:9. -

Registered 18 years agoMore news.
It will be divided into two parts.
- A more traditional survival horror experience that transpires between Code Veronica X and RE4
- The aforementioned mish mash of previous RE titles.
- It's being led by Masachika Kawata, who handled the port of Resident Evil 4 to PlayStation 2.
Odd choise of producer if you ask me(which you didn't)
Why take a PS2 guy when it uses the GC engine... ?

Oh no! It sounds like the gaming equivalent of that old US telly favourite, the "clips episode". 5 minutes of new footage where the characters all sit down every 30 seconds and say "hey, do you remember that time when we....?"
/wobbly screen effect
/flashback
:-D -
I would imagine everyone that worked on Resi 4 has gone on to work on Resi 5, and that the people working on this are the same people who worked on the PS2 port of Resi 4. Capcom would want their very best people on their biggest profile game, surely? -

Only in this I'm hoping they're using it to frame cool action sequences in wildly different locales!
I mean, let's face it:
-Hey do you remember the time we were surrounded by Zombies and a low flying apache helicopter came in to finish us off?
-Oh yeah, it's that time I just happened to be carrying around a chainsaw and a rocket-launcher, right?
Would make me watch any clip-show. Except maybe family guy. -

Well quite, but the engine etc. for the Wii version is essentially done because it's mostly the same as the Cube version. Much more work to do on the proper sequel and much more to lose if it's sub-par.
