| No, the FFXII system is so much smoother and flawless. It's basically like playing World of Warcraft with two other people in your group, and you telling everyone what to do, or doing it manually. You have so much more control over the battles in FFXII. It's a lot of fun, actually. I wasn't that big of a fan for the battles in KOTOR either, but the battles are more like WOW and FFXI than KOTOR, tbh. |

This thread sure hasn't seen much action in a while! -
I'm not sure where they're going with this one, tbh. The new screenies all look a bit drab, there's nothing that really grabs and wows you. I'd really like to see it in motion, I don't suppose there's a magical portal that'd allow me to do that, is there? -

Registered 16 years agoThere's an interview at Xboxyde, with Hironobu Sakaguchi. In the comments, BlimBlim informs that LO should be out in Japanese and English territories (including UK) in time for the Holidays! Japanese voices will be included in the Euro version, and Sakaguchi explains the battle system. -

Registered 16 years agoEven though I love the "manga-ka" (Vagabond, Slam Dunk and REAL are all brilliant), I have a horrible feeling that this is going to be generic pish. None of the screenshots have made me all tingly inside, and the demo looked a bit uninspired. The music seemed a bit twee for the goings-on, too.
I don't know, maybe I've just been spoiled by FFXII recently, but it all seems very "meh". I really hope that in a few days we'll see a demo which makes me do a complete turnaround, but for now it's just not a title which inspires much excitement in me. -
No, I'm with you. Everything seems very dull and empty... sterile, almost. Maybe that's the intention, but it's certainly not firing the imagination much. A bit of a shame after Blue Dragon - I didn't particularly like the character stylings in that, but the world looked great and the whole thing was so full of energy that it almost bounced. -

Registered 16 years agoYeah. Blue Dragon had almost Dreamcast levels of vibrancy, if you know what I mean.
The premise of playing as a 10,000 year old immortal is one of the most interesting I've read about (certainly in terms of JRPGs), but right now it's like that's the only thing it's got going for it. I REALLY hope it's good, but still..

Registered 15 years agoI agree - the character and enemy design sort of reminds me a bit Sudeki, in a creatively redundant, souless sort of way.
I am still hoping to be wrong, I want this to be good, I am just not feeling it at the moment. -

Registered 18 years agoI thought Vagabond quickly descended into a challenge of how little plot development he could get away as his art got more detailed, so I was never as hopeful for this as I was for Blue Dragon. The general reaction that I've seen on 2ch is that people are expecting this to be a very run of the mill FF game without the title, when it could have been something very individual. -

Registered 16 years agoThey showed a new trailer, with gameplay, during the Microsoft briefing. It was awesome, and I saw what new consoles can do with one of my favourite genres.
Here y'are!

That looks bloody lovely. I hope it has some real depth to it. -

Registered 16 years agoHere comes the predicted 180 degree turn:
Game looks brilliant. Although the battles look VERY traditional in terms of gameplay, the characters all look ace and the idea behind the plot is great. VERY Planescape: Torment.
And it's out this year.. christ. Between this and Mass Effect, I think I'm going to have to take the first few months of 2008 off. -
Okay, that looks much better than the screenies! Nice to see some colour for a change.
It also doesn't seem quite as "Final Fantasy" as I was expecting. I'm not sure how to explain it, it seems less reserved and a touch more 'Western'.
Might be a goodie yet, then! -

I've downloaded the trailer for this from Live, and I'm actually quite excited now. Looks like it will have that peculiar Japanese mentalness you don't get anywhere outside of erm... Japan. Particularly liked the bit where the girl jumped over the cliff and the voiceover was going "what is the cost of my immortality", good music as well. -

Registered 15 years agoI think the graphics look too clean too. That empty kinda look isn't really my thing. Enchanted Arms suffered from that a bit. But then how it looks isn't everything. I much prefer the style of Eternal Sonata. -

Registered 18 years agoI think the setting and story looks really interesting but I'm worried it's going to be a bit crap on the technical side.
Oh, and isn't that the same cliff Kratos jumped off?

There's only been one hasn't there? Blue Dragon, and that was well received in Japan. -

Registered 18 years agoWell, we are basing this on trailers and one demo. As you've played the actually game I'll bow to your experience on this one .gif)
I not sure I'll consider Blue Dragon awesome, though. Not unless it really is totally overhauled from the demo. -

Registered 16 years agoFeature about the combat system
Some very interesting nuggets to be gleamed from there, including:
- Your character is not the only immortal
- If he dies in combat, he will automatically revive after a few turns
- You can use surrounding items on bosses
Very, very cool. -
Looking quite nice, although that trailer's really badly put together - just as anything starts to look interesting it cuts to something completely different.
