| Really it does look excellent. Can't really tell from the video whether its going to be the linear corridor affair (aside from wasteland area from the previous trailer) - all is good though. |

Registered 14 years agoColour me impressed.
Although glimpses o the game have been brief, it reminds me of KH and FFVII.
Which is a very good thing considering they're two of my favourite Square games. -
This might actually give me a reason to finally buy a PS3 if its decent. Doubt it somehow though, I can see SE messing it up. -

Registered 14 years agoThe CGI stuff in that trailer looks gorgeous running on my big TV running through the PS3.
The gameplay stuff looks good, though they could do with making the character's oufits more distinctive. I can imagine in big brawls with your guys in black suits, fighting guys in black armour it could be difficult to tell which is your guy, Noctis. -
Well if the trailer is anything to go by it will be fighting, cutscenes, fighting and more fighting, just like FF13. There was nothing else in it. -
Maybe. But maybe it's not trying to be a jrpg. -

Registered 14 years agoWell so long as the combat consists of more than just pressing 'X' like FFXIII I'll be happy.
Has Nomura confirmed there's going to be a traversable world map?
I've wanted it to go back to that style since FFIX. -
Last I heard he had experimented with the PSone style avatar and map style, didn't like it and had ditched it. -

You'd prefer FF to adopt a more action-based style, like Tales of?

There's much more going on, at most times in XIII, not least considering your characters are mobile, during each battle (that's great, Hope, you just stand next to the Sentinel, then! x.x ) but, the way they have designed it, is that all of your battle options are readily at hand. The characters take care of the minutae, whilst the player alters role and strategy, within a few clicks, and after a clear "change-up" cutaway you can get going with the very minimal of fuss.
I think the way for XIII that battles currently work is a very intelligent and accomplished way in that the player does not feel overwhelmed, even in the hardest-fought of fights, they are not fully exposed to it, but act slightly more detached and so can concentrate on strategy. Which then, rewardingly is carried out by the party. -

Registered 15 years agoThe battle system in FFXIII was easily the best thing about it. FFX still pisses all over it though. -
The battles are so fast and the action options so lengthy that it would have been impractical to micro manage. It was more involving than ffxii which didn't even require a press of x!
I would love to see a defined role system come back in. Perhaps just 3 characters and shifting roles like x-2 again. Just actual story and new locations please. -
The paradigm system was good, but it is still a very poor replacement for turn based battles. It might be an exaggeration to say that all you do is mash x, but for most of the fights that is what you are doing. You choose a strategy, then mash x until its time to heal/enfeeble/buff/debuff. It really did feel like all was doing was mashing a lot of the time. -
I felt that with Crisis Core too, that didn't have strategy to fall back on either! -

Registered 15 years agoYup, same here. I much prefer pre-defined roles, let me choose when to heal people, when to caste haste, what magic to cast etc etc. Whilst I enjoyed the battle system in FFXIII a lot, it really felt like you were just overseeing a battle from far away, moving your troops in different directions but never properly instructing them. -
Yeah I liked it, don't get me wrong, the fighting wasn't the problem with that game. Its just better in other FF games for me personally. -

Registered 14 years agoInterview with Nomura on the recent trailer and FFvsXIII in general.
The trailer shows just a section of the game's starting country -- that is, the kingdom ruled by Noctis' father. There are also other large kingdoms, and in between them you'll find villages. Even the villages are expansive. Nomura was once again surprised by the size when checking the game.
Sounds like open world to me

Registered 11 years agoPersonally i think "active" battle system like we saw in FFv13 can be better if you fighting trash ..It was always anoying in past games that you were stopped all the time by some low lever mobs and you had fight them all the time. -
VILLAGES!
Even 1 village/town will make this seem like an open world behemoth compared to FF13. -

Well it didn't have to be that way, but I know what you mean. I think one of the biggest mistakes they made with FFXII's battle system was not automatically disabling gambits for the character you're controlling. You shouldn't be able to put the entire party on auto-pilot. -

Registered 16 years agoIs this going to be shown (playable?) at E3? I ask too, of the same query for XIII-2 - here, bc there isn't yet an E3 2011 thread. No more being coy, Squeenix, show us what you've got! -

Not sure about the story behind this video and whether it is legit or not, but it seems that FF Versus XIII has been renamed as Final Fantasy XV.
Also it is now being released for the Wii U as well as the PS3.

Registered 10 years agoGiven how they're expanding on XIII anyway it would perhaps be better to call it XV. -

Registered 11 years agoYes it running on a console released half a decade after the PS3 is a real embarrassment.
If it's now FFXV surely there'll be a 360/Nextbox version too? -
I dunno, depends, AFAIK SE and MS never struck a deal for vsXIII, if it's now XV(which would make sense, however much people wouldn't want it, myself included) they would still need to expand on that deal.
(think it was sparked with SE wanting XI on Xbox, and MS wanted XIII on the platform too. Or something to that effect?)
