Chaps, anyone using Aperture?
I'm thinking about migrating to it, now that v1.5 lets you keep your own directory structure. But making you buy before you try is a tad annoying. Anyone using it on a Macbook Pro? How is it? I have a gig of ram, is that going to be enough? Annoyances with Aperture compared to Lightroom or IVMP?
(Saturday night thread spells certain death, I'll have to bump it on Monday...) -

Everyone really rates Photoshop, but I've always used Corel Photo Paint... brilliant.gif)

Yes I seem to recall that being my major problem with it. -

Registered 16 years agoPhotoshop is better (from my point of view) but Aperture is a nice piece of software that sits nicely beside it if you want to try something a little bit different.
I like them both but if I was at gun point - *imagines scenario*

Um, Photoshop?
Have I missed something completely? Is there something in CS3 that can achieve what Aperture and Lightroom can achieve?
Photoshop, Lightroom - same thing.

Registered 20 years agoI like Aperture. It's even *usable* since the point-release. Which makes it even more likeable, really. -

While I can't answer your question, this is exactly what Owen and I were talking about the other day when we said we didn't like iPhoto. Too many files! -

Yep, It's kind of growing on me. I'm gutted how clunky it is compared to iPhoto though.
Anyone know if it's possible to delete all your original files of the edited versions? If if you just straighten a pic slightly in iPhoto, it creates a new file, which whilst good in the long run, I have everything backed up now, so I could lose all the originals of edited files, and free up quite a bit of hard drive space...
Anyone?
mkdir ~/.Trash/iPhoto-Originals
cd ~/"Pictures/iPhoto Library/Modified/"
find . -type f -exec mv "../Originals/{}" /.Trash/iPhoto-Originals/ \;
Note - As this just removes the files and the DB is not updatred iPhoto still thinks that the original is still there so gives you the option to revert to original. Nothing will happen though if you do this.

I use both Lightroom & CS2 and like them both for different reasons. Lately I've spent more time on Lightroom because I've only really been adjusting WB & the odd contrast & hue adjustment.
\needs to spend more time on CS2 -

Works well that does. -

So how are you getting on deem?
With iVMP being swallowed by Microsoft and Adobe shafting me for an upgrade to CS3 I'm tempted to switch over to Aperture if it's now working a bit more nippily. But the thing is I have three or four PS actions that I use all the time... Bah! Trapped! Prisoner of Adobe!

I'd be interested in hearing about the size of the Aperture library file even if the photo files are referenced rather than copied. Also, can an Aperture library be stored on an external drive? I guess I should do more research. -
