Here's a brief glimpse at an adventure title coming from the makers of Dragon Quest VIII.

    Hummanah and INDEED hummanah!!!

The art direction reminds me of a superb French animation calld Belleville Rendezvous (which I'm sure everyone is aware of). Unfortunately, I think the chances of this game coming out in the West are slim to none... *sigh*

It's Level 5 so it should do. Right?

It does look beautiful, doesn't it? Can't wait!

puzzle solving, edutainment and adventure elements

Edutainment? That sounds dangerous. Here's hoping the focus lies more on the puzzle solving and adventure elements...

Professor Layton and his assistant Luke will try to solve a series of well-known mysteries/incidents

This sounds intriguing. Well-known as in what? Will they solve the mysteries of Jack the Ripper, Spring-Heeled Jack and the murder of Olof Palme?

More mysteries like "which of the five shapes corresponds to the tool", if the third to last screenshot on the first page is anything to go by.

This looks ace. Very stylised and quirky but I tell ya, after being totally hooked into Phoenix Wright and Lost in Blue, I can't get enough DS adventures.

Lost in Blue? Nice. Absolutely loved it, and was annoyed in hindsight that so many reviews tried their very best to put me off.

Sequel in the works, btw. \o/

    I'm also looking forward to:
    Touch Detective
    Hotel Dusk: Room 215
Phoenix Wright 2 - Justice For All

Quick search of IGN's DS Adventure section also throws up these:
    Undercover: Dual Motives
    Lost in Blue 2
    Project Hacker
    The Masquerade Lullaby

DS = point and click adventure heaven!
Oh, and flashcart = Lucasarts SCUMM games heaven :-D

Homebrew, my good friend, homebrew... It's like a strong cider that tastes more than slightly of urine but gets you wankered quicker than a dutch pr0nstud

Hmmm I never got ScummVM to work for me on anything other than the PC (which kinda defeated the object as I could play all my LucasArts stuff in DOSBOX anyway).

On the DS though it'd be golden.

    SCUMM DS.

Prof Layton looks neat. It also looks 'Japan only'.

    *cough*

Kick Trading = Supercard Lite (microSD) + Superkey
eBay = cheap 1GB microSD (transflash) card

Drunken Coders = ScummVM port for DS

    Oooh cheers.

I like to play things legit so I'd just play the games I own already (yes I still have those lovely "big box" copies of most of the Lucasarts stuff..)

If you got the dosbox versions still I think they'll work with ScummVM - if you can get them working with ScummVM on PC they should work with the DS ScummVM as it's a straight port I think.

Only thing is they need to be smaller than 32 meg to fit into DS RAM - but there are compression tools and such to squeeze them down - and ScummVM can support MP3 files for the music etc.
Talkie version of DoTT = aces :-)

That looks nowhere near as japanese only as phoenix wright does.

    So you never know...

Yeah, I'm not sure that *any* DS game can be filed under 'Japan only' at the moment - if Nintendo tells people to buy it then they sell like hot cakes whatever they are and wherever they come out.

Goemon's a special case because they hate releasing Goemon games outside Japan. Also because I need to make it a special case to fit my theory.

    LOL.

It's vaguely playable as it is, it just lacks that certain something. Like me being able to get off the second level :)

Ooh ta. Don't usually like cheating but have been playing this again recently and it's easily one of the most impressive titles on the DS - if only I could get anywhere with it!

    Yup...

It's absolutely bonkers and just piles on the action. Unusual for a DS game.

    Have a looksee..

    IGN Review

Check out some of the gameplay vids.

As I said, It's a bit of a rediscovered classic for me as I'd bought it ages ago and played it a lot but couldn't get anywhere. Still superb though and if the game walkthrough helps, I might get to see some of the eye-mashingly gorgeous boss monsters yet!

Ah cool, thanks for the link.

My DS has been used for more than an hour for precisely two games this whole year, so I could do with something a bit different for it.

Well this is certainly that. IGN rather insultingly drew paralells with Zelda but tbh it knocks Minish into a cocked...cap :)

I ordered it from play-asia btw...
