His point was - the Wii, previously touted as an "accessible console for the family" was all about fun and value for money. The technology within bar the wii-motes and sensor bar themselves (i.e. the expensive stuff) is based around an ancient console. The 360 is not. So in actual fact Youthist was being mighty generous when comparing the two do you not think?

I'm not sure if sb was being sarcastic, but I actually agree with the above! You can make all the (valid) points you like about getting a new type of controller instead of a fancy new graphics chip (and you can even argue that this is more exciting for gaming - I'd disagree on the evidence so far, personally), but you CAN'T argue that the Wii is much cheaper than the 360. It just isn't - they're in exactly the same ballpark.
    I agree, almost totally.

But keep in mind this still is the launch price. I wouldn't be surprised if the Wii was at least £139.99 (no bundled game) by March next year.

The Xbox 360 was a full 100 smackers more on launch at £279.99, comparatively it the Wii (+ 1 bundled game dont't forget) is alot cheaper.

Ok. Perhaps that's a bit unfair, but Nintendo made a lot a noise about it being far more 'accessible' (for which I, amongst others, read 'well priced') in their hype. They could have made it cheaper upfront and clawed the revenues back through increased (s/w and hardware) sales, but they didn't.

Razz is almost certainly right anyway.

Accessibility refers to interaction, not price. Check under 'accessibility' in your start menu.

The Wii is going against the PS3, the XBox 360 is turning one year old and its no longer in launch period.

Of course there are bundles and special offers ... I have a premium at €299 but that is because this time we will start to look at Xbox 360 having such things, the Wii is launching and the official price listed for the Xbox 360 is still €299 for the core and so the Wii is cheaper, until MS cuts the price (not random store in portugal) the Wii is cheaper of all "next gen" consoles.

Well obviously...Nintendo were probably aiming to be cheaper than its two competitors, which it as suceeded. Besides you get more fun for your money.

Any port in a storm eh Teeg! ;)

His point is valid, except for the fact that he assumes the other consoles won't drop too. Which of course they will.

    Anything else?

    Xbox 360, 2 wireless controllers, headset and PGR3 = £299

Wii , One controller, red steel and zelda = £259.
Wii, one controller, another extra controller, red steel and zelda = £299.

The price your quoting for the 360 seems to be for a core pack console which is just pointless.
I got a premium pack last week including 2 wireless controllers and 2 games (PGR and TR) for 300 smackers.

I don't understand why people get annoyed at companies trying to do what companies generally want... you know, actually make some money on their product? I understand that the whole inclusion of Wii Sports is to "beef up" the Wii as a console (as much as it is the Wii's poster child), but at the end of the day, Nintendo's a business for God's sake! Furthermore, I'm sure plenty of people will see the console as £180 for out of the box entertainment, not something they're going to have to buy along with some fishing in GAME or wherever for more software.

Meh. Whatever. Just be glad that Sony isn't trying to make profit on the PS3 console.

I've got an Xbox 360 and the reasons why I bought the console are totally different to why I'm going to buy a Wii. The price of the consoles don't come into the equation. I've said this on many occasion that I queued for 13 hours in Asda to buy an Xbox 360 on launch day. The store had 8 consoles available and I was third in the queue (5 Premium Packs) and (3 Core Packs) were up for the taking.

To have the honour of purchasing a Premium pack; you had to buy this shit that was bundled with it, Perfect Dark Zero, Kameo and a Play and Charge Kit. I think the price was £365 but I also bought COD 2 and NFS Most Wanted. The next day I went out and bought PGR, an extra controller, 12 months Xbox Live and an additional Play and Charge Kit. The total cost was about £575.

With the Wii I'll be buying the console, 5 games and an extra controller and nunchuck for about £375. I don't need the wireless connector that I paid £60 for the 360; ok so the Wii won't have tearing, jaggies and pop-ups; but I can put up with shit graphics if the playability is good.

I could get the Wii earlier than expected especially if I adopt a US console; if I stick to the European launch the console could be in my possession by Wednesday the 6th of December. I wouldn't recommend anybody to buy a Nintendo console; not after the abortion NOE made with the Gamecube. I was going to post an article called "Wii Shall Overcome" an insight into the pros and cons of Nintendo's new machine.

dont mean to keep this fiery thread afloat but i just checked my play.com order for me wii.

games are now £32.99 h'apparently. So a wii, 3 games (zelda, monkeyball, wiisports) and an extra wiimote =£270

and compared to the launch price of 360 with one wireless controller and no games £280, and considering the games were £50 each...

also anyone else noticed this games price change?

There shouldn't be a space between mac and !. It should also say:

Not too sure, technically it should be but I'm not sure whether 'mac' is the proper word for it.

Edit: Just checked the Apple website and, yes, it would appear that 'Mac' is acceptable.

You should have seen a thread on the Macrumors forum a while ago - supernova.

Basically it all came down to the fact that there was .mac, which was not capitalised, but this was the only instance of this.

Generally, when refering to hardware, "Mac" is the only acceptable term.

Oh, iTunes working great on my Mac(s) too. My PC-user friend says it don't do too good on his machine though.
