ign recently pointed out (although its face achingly obvious) that nintendo arent pushing the wii much in terms of publicity. surely we should have been bombarded by kerrazy footage of ppl playing wiisports or diving behind their chairs while playing metroid by now? in terms of of tv ive seen almost nothing on the wii, very little advertising past the cover of the official nintendo mag. xbox360 has even had coverage on newsround! (yeah i sure do watch it before the evening neighbours) anyone actually seen some wii publicity? do nintendo really think word of mouth is gunna shift this console? Registered 16 years agoWhen I think back to the Snes release, the adverts were on all the time, and look how well the Snes did. I really hope they push it onto TV adverts in November.... but I ain't holding my breath! -
I've got a sneaky suspicion that I've seen a Wii advert in a print mag. Maybe this month's Games TM?
Of course, it might've just been a dream. -

Registered 16 years agowell i remember the months leading upto the xmas that ocarina of time was released, you practically couldnt avoid the ads, which really did the job properly.
lots of in game footage and tasty epic nintendo vibe, led to me uber pressuring my rents for an n64 for xmas morning
*reminisces about kokori village, beating the deku tree before xmas dinner* -

Registered 18 years agoThe lack of advertising and publicity is a little worrying. The console may still be around six weeks away, but Nintendo really needs to get the hype machine going.

Nintendo Europe don't have a hype machine. They only have a hand-cranked "small squeak" box. -

Registered 18 years agoThen again, I don't remember seeing many adverts around the time of the DS launch, either, but now they're everywhere.

gamers tm and edge are all well and good (prefer gamers tm myself ; D) but are the audience nintendo are aiming the wii at the type of ppl that read computer game mags?
another thought is that with all the kerfuffle over preorders etc, arent the only ppl to have wii's this christmas going to be hardcore gamers? ie: the people who actually bother to preorder a console, most parents would probly just expect to march into a shop in december and pick up wotever little johnny or sally has asked for -

It's because nintendo thought they were a surefire win during the second world war. Or because it's in the geographical center of Europe maybe?

It's not a bad approach at this time. Target the enthusiasts who already know all about it first, blitz the general public when it's about to hit the shelves.

Why the worry? It's not your money on the line!

Registered 17 years agoThey will replace the DS ads on C4 with Wii ones.
Still i bet xbox will have more ads this xmas, they have been doing some really good ones in the cinema (the stand off ad is fantastic)
Wii should stick to C4 comedy, CITV and places like that. They are not really selling to the tech savey and big poster will not be able to show the controller -

/note to Nintendo - bribe Trevor McDonald and present the Wii as the antidote to evil games, he could have a special on it. -

Cool. What were they like? Did they show in-game footage or were they all arty? -

They used the first promo vid, the one where it starts with the wiimote emerging from milk, peeps leaping about on sofa, some in game footage. -

Seems a strange choice of footage and time to run the ad but at least it's a start! -
Quote from GoNintendo about Euro advertising for the Wii. Sounds promising!
"Nintendo details Euro launch campaign
TV spots, they got you covered. In-store demos, but of course! Trailers at the movies, you know it. PR hype, without a doubt. Nintendo is going to blitz Europe with a £6.5 million ad campaign from here to December, and then another £4.5 million from January to March.
Wii product manager Rob Lowe made a few statements concerning the aggressive campaign. 80% of UK television watchers are expected to see Wii TV commercials 3 times a day!
“It is our intention to make the Wii the number one console in the UK. The campaign focuses on real people playing and having fun.” - Rob Lowe"
