Argos are continuing to take pre-orders which they claim will be delivered on December 8th, and they also take your money the moment you pre-order. As I missed out on Play.com and had the money ready anyway I didn't mind this, so I have pre-ordered with them (checking by email that they would indeed deliver on Dec 8th, and they replied to say they would)

If you don't get your console from Argos on December 8th do you have a good case for a full refund? I'm considering booking the day off work but I'm still slightly skeptical, they seem to have an infinite supply considering how long they have been accepting orders, where as Play etc sold out within hours.

Are they likely to know their allocation yet?

I ordered from Argos a few weeks ago and they took money from account. I don't think they will have taken that many pre orders though. So hopefully we should get one. I fi did not come through on release i would say they will give a full refund.

I got my Xbox 360 from them last year and that was in much shorter supply at the time so should be a OK

That's a fair point, I guess many people would be reluctant to part with the cash already. Lets hope so!

I think they'll get a large share given that they are well known and appeal to non-gamers who would go into argo's over a games store.

    Argos site still says...

"This item will be delivered when it is released on 8th December."

However the latest printed offer brochure says something like...

"This item will be delivered to your home from December 8th onwards"

Glad they know what they are doing then!
  • Deleted user 21 November 2006 17:50:26
Well the site can bu updated after the 8th to say "We will deliver this to your house from now on" whereas the catalogue will look a bit out of date if you check it months later and it says, "We will deliver your Wii on the 8th of December".

    Do you see? ;)

I've ordered mine, the only thing it wouldn't let me pre order was Zelda, which was sold out. I'm confident they'll deliver, they probably have a big-ish allocation and argos isn't exactly gamers first stop for buying games etc.

Also the Wii launch will not be like the 360 launch. There were only about 100,000 for that launch, I expect there will at least be 500,000 allocated. So everyone whos planning to buy at launch should get one really without much trouble. It'll probably be alot like the DS launch which went quite well.

Nice in theory, but the brochure expires on November 29th!

In which case it's probably a WELL old brochure, at least a couple of months, that will have been put together when the release date was announced, and hence is vague, but accurate.

    /hopes

/has an order in with them too, but somehow doesn't see them actually delivering ON the 8th...

It's let me order a Wii and Zelda just fine this very day.

Good try, but it's very recent ;)

When did you order your Wii? Argos sent me this last week...

We are accepting orders for the pre order console for delivery on the 8th of December, our system takes payment at point of sale and stock is reserved for you until the release date.

Having placed an order this afternoon and spoken with a supervisor, they _dispatch_ on the 8th, with delivery within two working days.

Clearly this contradicts what many of you have heard from other sources.

What scared me most was when he said: "and if you don't get it by the 12th, then we're guaranteeing before Christmas." This after guaranteeing the 12th. :-/

Meh - if it shows up so much the better. If not, I'll just wait like I did with the 360.

They will ring you the week before delivery to arrange a delivery. Only problem with Argos is you have to wait in all day for the delivery. Considering it comes out on a Friday you should get it on Friday if they deliver to that area on Friday and you arrange it, if not you might have to pay extra to get it on a Saturday.

They sorted me out with my 360's last year

Can I also add the Wii is exempt from the 16 day money back guarantee too at Argos - so be wary. I have a confirmed by email order from hmv and I have to work out sharpish which one to cancel out of the 2.

I don't know what HMV are like for delivery etc. anyone know?

Well, I've just spent three weeks waiting for them to send out Canis Canem Edit. They don't respond to emails.

It was just a game, and they pissed me off and lost my custom. Had it been the Wii they did that with, I may have gone nuclear. :)

Blimey, making this all a bit complex/expensive for themselves aren't they?

I'd much rather just collect it in store on the 8th, a hell of a lot easier than needing a day off work even though it may end up coming at 5pm (or not at all!)

I'm gonna keep my Argos order, try to sort out the mess at Woolies (ordered online, and it keeps demanding confirmation of all my details, including requiring to contact me during the day on a LANDLINE - which is actually impossible for me, so then I pre-ordered a second one on a different card thinking it might just go straight through but they're doing the same shit with me on that one as well so now I'm trying to cancel them both so I can go order in the actual shop, but their STUPID 'Contact Us' system doesn't seem to actually result in a response. Ever.) and any extra Wiis I may end up with will go straight on the 'bay. Or I might offer them round here for anyone that wants. :)

If it's any consolation, I used HMV as others around these parts had reported a decent experience with them so hopefully mine was an isolated case.

Blimey, the torrent of contradictory quotes from Argos continues ...

I'll wait until the final week for confirmation of some sort and cancel the fucka if they don't absolutely guarantee delivery on the 8th. An Argos women on the phone said pre-orders can be cancelled at any time for a full refund but hey, going by everything else they've told people that could be BS too ...

BTW, just to cap it all off:

Many of you won;t have seen this page at Argos - check it out, it's made 100% clear that ALL pre-orders will be DELIVERED ON THE 8th ...

    http://www.argos-email.co.uk/preregister/wii/

    I particularly like this bit:

"By ordering now, you can relax(!) knowing that your console is reserved. Argos will even deliver it to your home - there will no hectic scramble instore to get your copy, no queuing and no waiting until midnight."

Oh and I've called the 'dedicated Nintendo hotline' which was anything but that and had a completely non-informative conversation with some chav-type woman ...

Awesome, they've done me out of £10 then! Had to order it from Gameplay instead. Perhaps they ordered more perhaps.

Personally I'm not bothered if I get mine at launch, so long as I get it before Christmas, which I think everyone will. I think people are panicing too much mind, I bet there will be places you can still buy them from come launch day. Everyone will get one eventually! Relax!

Well, sod it! I wasn't going to but I've gone and ordered one!

Incidentally, Zelda is indeed still out opf stock when you go to confirm your order. The cheeky feckers don't tell you until then! ;)

I find it hard to believe that this will remain true right until launch - surely software is always far more plentiful than hardware (unless someone at head office fucked up!).

Exactly my point, I just cannot believe that they have more consoles than the game of the console at release, it just cannot be true!!! :)

Hmm, just had a thought - if they are doing stock-checking for the Wii stuff (as it seems with Zelda), perhaps they really do have that many Wii's available?

Does someone want to volunteer to order 10,000 Wii's from their site to see if it tells you they're outta stock? :)

I'll call them tomorrow, if they cannot confirm stock by Friday I shall be ordering it from gameplay along with an official Component cable.

Point 6 is the most definitive statement I've seen from them yet...

Argos will then deliver direct to you on the day of launch.

LOL Yeah, it's definitely not dedicated to the Nintendo Wii.

"Yah what! A Wii? What Wii?"

I've just had an email from Argos stating that the Wii and Zelda that I ordered from them yesterday will most definitely be arriving on the 8th.

    Dear customer,

Thank you for your e-mail regarding your delivery order number XXX.

Our records show that your order has already been booked for delivery on 8th December, between 7and 6pm, which is the day of release. If this is not convenient, please call 0870 600 2020 quoting your order number.

Why not? Not every wii owner is likely to buy Zelda. That's why there is a launch line-up. The games sales will be spread over several games.
