I was going to do that, but with everyone else pre-ordering, I fell into a state of "I might not get one" panic and set off for Argos.co.uk!!!

Think about it! Argos are a big winner here as they take the money straight away, so while you're waiting for the console, they're earning interest on your cash. Great business plan.

Don't care. It's not that much interest and in any case they knocked a tenner off Zelda. So...

    :)

Well, I wasn't earning any interest on it anyway, as the rate on my current account is about 0.00000001%, and TBH I'm so caught up in the hype that I don't care!!!

I investigated preordering but argos.ie search for a Wii returns a whopping 0 hits, and hmv.ie helpfully enough, doesn't exist! The cheap twunts!

My jaw just dropped...'Janet' had this to say to me when I asked for clarification on Wii deliveries...

"Firstly the information I have states that all pre order Nintendo Wii's will be delivered 8th December. I have been given no details that anyone who has placed an order for home delivery from Argos, has been advised they will receive a call to confirm delivery."

Yet many people here have been told they WILL get a call, and their very own website says...

Argos will contact you in the week prior to launch to arrange delivery of your order.

I'm sensing some communication issues at Argos HQ! So that's 3 emails and I'm even more confused than I was to start with.

Let me add to the confusion... this email hot from Argos customer support

Thank you for your e-mail regarding xxxxxxxxxxx.

When placing an order for this item we need to select a date to carry on with the order and take payment it does not mean that this is the date that the item will be delivered. You will receive a phone call from our outbound team to arrange delivery within the first two weeks of December.

Should you require any further assistance please do not hesitate to contact us at order.enquiries@argos.co.uk or call us on 0870 600 8784.

    Regards,

    Danielle Holian
Argos Direct E-Commerce Customer Service Team.

So this seems to say that Argos WILL call in advance to confirm delivery dates, but they WONT guarantee delivery on the 8th.

/brain hurts, needs to lie down

I'd stop panicking, go into Woolies, pre-order one there for store-pickup, then if you get two, flog one.

hehe, where as mine this afternoon says they WON'T call in advance, but WILL guarantee delivery on the 8th.

Legendary, the woman who answered me seemed pretty pissed off actually, they clearly aren't getting any info from HQ, that or they are having an office joke at our expense.

Or this - one of half a dozen similar-yet-all-different responses I've had from them:

I have looked into this matter for you and I can advise that Argos has been allocated a quantity of the Nintendo Wii from our suppliers. Therefore we are offering a majority of these for pre order as advertised on our website. Argos is unable to guarantee any deliveries as stock is always subject to being received as confirmed in the contracts we have with our suppliers. If unforeseeable events happen such as, the Nintendo Wii launch date being amended, the quantity received is lower then arranged or if goods are received damaged, then this will evidently impact on the deliveries advised for the intended delivery date. However I have no information at this time to advise that deliveries will be delayed so goods should be received on 8th December as arranged.

I trust this information is of use.

I've replied that it is of no use because you won't answer a question - 8th, yes or no?

I've also asked them to confirm that the page on their site that says pre-orders will be delivered on the 8th is a complete lie ...

As I mentioned earlier the worst is that there is no 16 day money-back guarantee on the Wii, so you can't send it back if you buy it from elsewhere.

Well, sod it! I wasn't going to but I've gone and ordered one!

Incidentally, Zelda is indeed still out opf stock when you go to confirm your order. The cheeky feckers don't tell you until then! ;)

I find it hard to believe that this will remain true right until launch - surely software is always far more plentiful than hardware (unless someone at head office fucked up!).

Exactly my point, I just cannot believe that they have more consoles than the game of the console at release, it just cannot be true!!! :)

Why not? Not every wii owner is likely to buy Zelda. That's why there is a launch line-up. The games sales will be spread over several games.
No. Traditionally software availablility during console launch has always been better than hardware.

Besides, you and they are obviously wrong as Argos is sold out innit! :)

That seems pretty much like a confirmation to me. Very similar to the email I got back from them that also confirmed in NO uncertain terms that my Wii was BOOKED for delivery ON the 8th.

Just looked on Argos and they're still taking guaranteed launch date pre orders, when I added to basket it said in stock and offered me delivery on Monday!

Next monday? Obviously it won't come next Monday - their pre-order system online doesn't adjust delivery dates to be in line with what you've ordered - it weirdly assumes you're ordering something that's in stock now. However, if you call them up and quote your number having placed the order they'll probably tell you either that someone will call you nearer the time to confirm delivery, or that it will be delivered on the 8th.

    Probably.

The website now says they have sold all of their initial allocation (and then some no doubt!) but the lovely young lady I just spoke to said my pre-order (25 Oct) will be fullfilled. \o/

Just watched the Zelda vieo review on gametrailers and am a little excited.

What is the latest update on this? I know people who ordered last week who have been allocated time slots for this Friday already (1pm-6pm seems to be a popular one)

I ordered a few weeks ago and haven't heard a thing yet.

I haven't heard anything either, apparently they are going to contact people "2-3 days" before launch. I emailed them last night to see if I can get the delivery address changed since I am working from 2 o'clock and couriers never seem to deliver to my house before 3. If I haven't heard anything from them after tomorrow afternoon I'll give them a phone.

Couldn't get through to customer service tonight. Will try again tomorrow morning to see if I can get more info on delivery times.

The last time I spoke to Argos however, the lady assured me that my order would be delivered on the 8th December.

I just want to know WHEN!

When I 'phoned this afternoon I was told not to expect a phonecall before Thursday regarding delivery. Just another 'story' from them to add to the pile. :)

The positive, of course, is that they're still talking about 'when' it will be delivered and not 'if' it will be delivered. Which is nice.

This evening they tell me they will receive them on Friday then book them in then dispatch them.

    No-one has a clue really.

Damn, from what I've heard you can't change the delivery address due to some stupid reason to do with the courier company. No doubt mines will come late afternoon and I'll miss it. I'm guessing it will get sent to a depot rather than being left with a neighbour, and they probably won't re-deliver until "the next working day". Idiots
