...not really a bug I guess, but is it possible to fix it so that ignored forumites' threads still appear, but their posts don't (although their first post appearing would make sense I suppose).

Now that I've put you on ignore; can you read this?

Actually the whole thread disappeared and I had to go into another thread that you had posted in to stop ignoring poster. :)

That's the problem, it'd be a nice extra if we could ignore a poster without their thread vanishing.

But surely trying to read threads started by people you're ignoring would, in most cases, be an absolute pig of an experience? What I mean is that the thread starter is quite likely to be one of the main contributors to the thread, so the bulk of the conversation won't make sense.

That's not necessarily true. If a topic is interesting, you'll usually get tonnes of people contributing, and in many cases quoting the ignoree, so there's no real problem there.

Plus, with the new ignore/unignore thingy, you can read what they're saying in that thread. Chances are that they won't troll, flamebait or derail their own threads...

Plus, sometimes forumites you don't like start-up official threads that you really want to be a part of.

So, do what I do and don't put anyone on ignore and just ignore them by, you know, ignoring them.

That solution doesn't suit me. Obviously it won't suit a lot of forumites either, or EG would never have bothered implementing an ignore function in the first place, or updating it.

Now if you ignore a poster; their name and posts are still there as contributions but you can't read them. This is a good idea for preventing blank pages.

That does mean you'll be able to read all the nokia spam threads too.

That's the number one reason I use the ignore button. I'm usually fairly capable of just normally ignoring people who irritate me, but it's nice to be able to turn the front page into a tidy place when someone's been on a thread-making spam spree.

heh - now an ignored users post is visible (you see their name etc.) but the text is "User is being ignored."

The "Stop ignoring poster" link is a good idea as well - that'll certainly help prevent confusion when someone has accidentally put someone on ignore that they didn't mean to ;-)
