My Wii has been on pre-order for goodness knows how long, and it has a lovely innovative controller but...

I'm really not fussed. Even by Zelda.

    What's wrong with me?!

Why? I can understand where this guy is coming from, totally... The Wii is an unproven system, and while I don't feel any apathy towards the system's potential, I do experience a little worry that the whole premise will be a failure and/or a disappointment. It's only natural...

I've not preordered and am not considering buying it simply because there are no games (much like with the PS3) on the platform that warrant a purchase of an entire new console.

Maybe when it's properly proven itself.

Bah, nothing beats the excitement of a brand new console, especially on launch day! :D

I'd link to the vgcats comic, but second hand humour sucks, and you've probably seen it, and if you haven't, you could probably write a better comic anyways.

With so much talk about the Wii, you have to wonder whether or not it can stand up to its own press. It's the same for every one of the three consoles around launch time.

Sony talks about four dimensions and brand new AI and tilt controls and in truth, people are gonna have to be let down when they get to play it. Especially at 600 smackeroos.

Nintendo has been talking about revolutionising gaming and giving us a whole new way to play and all that, and Zelda = teh gr3at3st. We're bound to be let down if our expectations are unrealistic.

    Fortunately, mine aren't. :)

Dunno, I'm still digging PS2 graphics, so as long as Wii is a step up...

Why? They're already better than the PS2 and Gamecube graphics. I still play my Dreamcast a lot and, to a lesser extent, my Saturn and I don't vomit all over myself.

Dreamcast + Rez + Soul Reaver + Soul Caliber != vomiting, in fact
Dreamcast + Rez + Soul Reaver + Soul Caliber == great graphics.

Only joking, I'm sure we'll all still be playing are Wii's for years to come, or until the Wii 2 or Wii Wii comes out. :)

That's so sad, it goes full circle to being acceptable, but in fact continues on that circle and becomes sad again.

    SAD.

Whilst there is always Zelda for the fans, which appears to be shaping up as one of the greatest single player experiences ever, I do wonder if solitary (and hardcore) players really know what they are letting themselves in for.

I'm confident I will love the Wii, simply because there are always 2-4 people up for playing on the Gamecube in our house for at least a few hours per week (and we only ever play mini/party games), so the Wii is sure to be absolutely perfect for us. I'm not even worried if I only have Wii Sports for the first few weeks, as I'm sure when it comes down to it even if I have Monkey Ball, Rayman and Wii Play we will probably end up going back to the same one or two mini-games time and time again, much like we do now on the GC with Monkey Target and Monkey Race.

It's also - bizarrely - perfect for my parents. They like to play games occasionally but most modern stuff is too complex, the Wii seems perfect for them and I'm sure when they see the Wii Sports advert on TV they will be asking me about getting them one. Whilst they won't be defending the Wii online, they will be quietly playing away in the background and buying shed loads of games, much like millions of DS owners all around the world.

Back to those solitary gamers that are often so vocal on the interweb...I can see these sorts getting very bored very quickly, especially if they've completed Zelda and Red Steel by the new year and have nothing left to play on for some time.

That's absolutely right about the parent thing mine saw the advert the other day for Wii Sports and at first didn't quite get it but when it showed the bowling and golf they seemed to get quite excited about it.

Now whether or not they would be willing to spend £180 on it is another question altogether as I'm pretty sure if push comes to shove they would prefer to just be watching a TV program than playing a game. Though that is based on past experience of them with other consoles like Xbox and Gamecube they have however had a go with the PS2 by playing a few games of Buzz and Singstar at party times of year like Christmas.

However as its for me I don't particularly care if they don't want to play on it more often than not. This is all in my honest opinion of course, your parents experience may differ.

I wonder how many people in my family I can persuade to get into this Christmas. I reckon it'll be easy to get my auld fella and my brother into it. My mother could be a tough sell though...

My Dad already loves this and thinks it the future of gaming (even though he's a PC FPS fanboy), my sister couldn't give a shit (she's going to Mongolia to live in a Yurt) and neither could my Mum.
