Personally I think Nintendo need to put Zelda to bed. It's done. Finished. Dusted. Kill it. Progress the story, change it dramatically. Or let it die on it's arse. I would be delighted it Iwata turned around and said in 2007 "We're not making anymore Zelda games".

Actually, while I enjoy the Zelda games, I'm not sure about the visual style (it's all a bit... dull. Wind Waker had such vibrancy and colour) and - if anyone was being honest - they're a bit of a rehash.

I do enjoy them though. Honest. :p

    I agree with you 100%

I so want to argue with you, but I can't :/

    Heh!

I can't say I'm not looking forward to it. It IS a new Zelda after all and they're great fun. But am I looking forward to it in the same way I was with PGR3 (i.e. counting the days) and the 360 in general? No.

That said, I'm not paying for it so meh! ;)

Not even as good as my xbox ffs!

Most of it looks awful (the arms, the draw distance, the gunfire...) but that tank thing on the left looks quite nice. I suppose.

"We are not making any more 3D Zeldas", that's more like it. Now, where did I put the plans for that Chronojohn...

It looks like one off those bigtrax toys from the 80's, anyway the game looks worse than the xbox game by miles. how old is xbox 5years old?

Still a lot of fun though by all accounts. Which I think is what this thread is trying to point out no?

Meh. I'm not interested in Zelda after TW. Not unless they radically change it.

    +1

Although Iwata/Miyamoto/Reggie did say that TP would be the last Zelda game in the form that we know it. It'll be interesting to see what they do.

But DON'T turn it into an MMO.

Someone already did that, or at least made one with graphics so similar to WW that they got sued.

Cant argue there, the wii is going to be lots of fun. but at £170 for a console that is not even as powerful as my xbox i dunno. i mean halo looks better TBH, i will reserve judgment until i play the blooming thing.
Surely that's the case with any console though. Who on earth would contemplate buying a console purely on the strength of it's pretty pictures?

The Wii will be judged on gameplay in the long run, just as it's more powerful console brothers.

Hands up if you've played on one and are still apathetic.

Since you're Blerk, you're allowed to be apathetic even after trying one.

    Cheers! I think.

Of course, if Nintendo want to send me one to try out then I won't refuse. And I promise not to put it on eBay until after Christmas. ^_^

Yes, that's fair enough Mapster, though I would point out that you asked for honest-to-goodness Wii impressions without the hyperbole from forumites yesterday while Youthist's thread was probably still on the front page. At that point it felt to me as though, like WOPR, you had decided to be apathetic about it and nothing might change your mind.

I guess we should go through the motions then: launch titles usually weak, late dev hardware, initial appeal-broadening software less likely to appeal to the current market, etcetc.

    ?!?!

Same reason I want a control pad, mouse + keyboard, joystick, DS and Wiimote in my house; they're all different methods of control that each give a vastly different methods playing experience/sense of immersion.

Not a great comparison at all, that.

That's just plain crazy; unless you're blind or stupid it's clear that there are many people who call themselves gamers that would like to own a Wii, especially after trying it. Perhaps you don't think of these people as proper gamers, whatever that means?

Still, I think Mapster is right in that one shouldn't need a hands-on to determine whether or not one is interested in something. So I retract my earlier question.

Really don't see where you're coming from at all, ManicMiner. I find the controllers fascinating. Shame there aren't really many games I'd like to play so far, but I don't see how anyone who considers themselves a "gamer" could not want such a device in their house.

Agreed. A true gamer (aaargh, I hate saying things like that) should be a person who likes playing games, and hungers for new gaming experiences... For example, I hate PCs as I often can't get games to to work on them. But I love playing PC games when my PC-gamer mate installs 'em for me, removing that obstacle. A lot of traditional non-gamers will be pleased that the console gaming obstacle has been removed for them on the Wii.

As a long time 'hardcore-gamer', I'm happy that a new fresh gaming experience exists to soothe my jaded gaming soul...

I imagine it's the old "parting with £180" that's the real issue. :-)

    Still, there's always eBay!
