I feel like I need a break from all the 360 games that have been clogging my games schedule over the past few months, and as I still havent watched Advent Children yet, I have decided to go back through FFVII again over the next few weeks., the last time I played it was on release many moons ago.

Fired it up last night and the memories came flooding back, cant wait to get stuck in again. Does anyone have any tips on secretive things that I may have missed out on the first time? Any special locations or items to go after? I cant remember a thing about it to be honest, apart from the major plot stuff.

Get Vincent. He has about 30 lines of dialogue, but fear not, he goes on to star in his own gameporno.

I played through with the official strategy book. Pleased I did, as there's so much I'd have otherwise missed.

Yuffie - was she the one in a particular wood and you had to defeat her then answer a series of questions she posed?

He has an island? And there are many semi-naked women on it?

Yes. She's also the subject of a large amount of very disturbing fan art. Do not turn the adult filter off when searching.

Beat all the monsters in the arena in that casino place. And was there any truth to rumour you can Aeris back to life?

I think i might buy a guide actually. I dont normally buy them but it might be worthwhile now that I know the story anyway and want to get the most out of it.

Did Piggyback or anyone similar exist back then?

Can't you go on a date with Barret by doing something incredibly complicated?

You have to favour Barrett in all situations. Not that you would, unless you were ABNORMAL.

Yes. Until you understand who Zack really is, you don't know Final Fantasy VII story at all ;)

Advent Children and the special edition anime do shed some more light to those who didn't know who he is yet, but believe me, he plays a very big role in the story of some characters in the game, specially Cloud and Aerith.

Anyway, tibids you might not notice:
-On the Gold Saucer you can get 4 different dates. Aerith and Tifa are easy to get. You can also get Yuffy and even Barret! All you need to do is to talk to tat character always first when chance is presented and keep him on your party all the times.
-You can be picked by the pimp in Midgar. You have to get all the special items to make a convincing dragqueen though (going to the gay showers and getting the perfume, etc). The pimp has a hyper behind his bed (eheheh)
-There are various materia hidden through the world. The special summon "Knights of the Round" will need you to breed special Chocobos to get it.
-There are 3 bahamut summons if memory serves me well.
-There are very hard to kill Weapons, one in the desert, one underwater. When I say hard to kill, I mean near impossible even at level 99.
-There are tripple growth weapons for every character. Don't sell these, otherwise you might not be able to buy them again. They are very usefull to grow the materia.
-You could try to go for the really hard materias that have all magics in one materia (I can't recall the name of those, but basicly you have 1 materia with all the summons, 1 with all the magics, etc)
-Aerith has a 4th limit break and a ultimate weapon like everyone else. Unfortunally for you to get them, you need to do some heavy leveling up, as well as ALOT of travel before her untimely demise.
-After Aerith death, you can see her one last time by visiting her church in Midgar.
-There are secret characters with secret sub-plots. Vincent has a plot where he finds her lover, and Yuffy has a plot where she steals all your materia for example.

EDIT: There is a materia in the train rails that you can only get when you are in the rails (I can't remmember which is, nor which section it is at, but I know that shit made me mad on my first play through). It's in some section when you jump off the train.

All this FF7 talk has got me wanting to play again! I've already completed it once this year, another could be overkill. Ah well, at least it'll kill some time until christmas rolls round. :)

I'm still waiting for the remake before going back through it, odds of that ever happening are slim obviously but still. Oh and i've been away from the forum for a while, very flash :) Any new sparkly features I should know about ?

I'd say it's more likely to happen than not, given recentish evidence.

recentish evidence you say ? last and only thing I knew about was the E3 2005 tech demo and a bunch of vague, well its not happening but its not, not happening stuff from Sony.

I can't believe people still talk about cloud as if zack doesn't exist...

It even turned cloud mental! he was wheelchair bound and you had to find him FFS! :)

Never has there been a game where there is a plot twist so severe that it turns the main character AWOL...

Started playing this a few weeks ago via the PSX emulator on the Xbox. Brilliant brilliant game. So pleased to see it still holds up today. Even more impressed it seems almost perfect on the MS box. Although I havent met a big boss or huge fight yet so not sure if it'll slow down. I have a feeling the summoned monsters might kill it.

how far in are you ?

the Aeris rumour is half true, they did originally plan to allow the player to bring her back to life then took it towards the end of development to save time. That's why when you walk into her church after her death, you can see her 'ghost' for a split second before it starts looping the AI/entity movement routines. People have poked around the code trying to find out what else was taken out, but that's it (no extra dialog etc), some random NPC dialog sounds like it might be related, but with Square denying the whole thing (despite the designer admitting it was in the original design) you'll never know how it was supposed to work.

Good question! I've forgotten :p IIRC I'm about to attack a second reactor, but my mind is a total blank!

Trouble is, its one of those games you really can only enjoy in 4 hour bursts (or longer) so i dont get much of a chance these days.

What the Sector 5 reactor ? Ah so still at the beginning then, good-o, You should be finished in about 2 years :)

And as always, I should add my "I hate JRPG's" disclaimer. FFVII is just an "event" game for me though, one of those where you can be proud to say you were there when it first came out.
Don't be silly Furbs, FF is a niche series if ever I saw one.

/possibly not everyone will get that
