    Hi chaps!

I've tried to be polite and sneak comments in the end of existing HD TV threads, but sadly i'm still at a loss and a bit confused.

I've been itching to get a HDTV for months now and now that I'm ready to take the dive (and have some spare money) the confusion kicks in as to which one to get :(

So, does anybody have this TV hooked up to a 360? Is it any good?

The reason I ask is poking around the internet turns up a lot of 'it has borders down the edge' issues, but I think this may just be over the VGA input. I'm hoping it works perfectly via the component HD cables which came with the 360.

I was just going to be dull and get the 32" samsung but from magazine reviews this set is supposed to have much better picture quality and an extra HDMI. Plus it's only £599 on amazon, I guess the new 68 is pushing down the price.

You'd think it would be easy to find an in-depth review for a TV, but alas - it's all "find where to get this the cheapest" sites mascarading as reviews. Bloody internet,

Hopefully somebody can tell me first hand if it's much cop ;)

    Cheers in advance!

I have it (or used to - made an annoying buzzing sound - a common problem with that telly), and it looks absolutely BLINDING with the 360, more than decent with SD DVD's, and OK with standard telly. Well worth the money - and no mistakin'.

(And I'm getting a replacement one one of these days, in case you're wondering :).

    cheers my good man,

I'm pretty set on it, but I hate making a big jump without at least consulting others. our current TV is buzzing really loud whenever whites are on screen, that's the main reason for me making the jump to HD. Nothing much to use on it other than the xbox atm so spending £2000 would be a bit overkill, seemed like the best 6-12 month solution.

One thing which puzzles me is that Amazon don't call it a Regza and the picture doesn't have a Regza sticker on it, on other places they do and it does (yet the model number is the same). Is the Regza a different model? or are the photographs just different.

    Hey Mr Pirotic!

I have that model (got it about three days ago); the 360 looks lovely on it. I'm connecting via VGA and - despite what i've heard about the lack of 1-1 pixel mapping - it looks extremely good to me.

If you want saturated colours, you can go for the component connection - VGA is definitely muted.

As I said in the other thread, 2xHDMI ports and excellent handling of SD TV swung it for me. Also, it's a nice looking (imo) piece of kit.

If you've got any other questions, gimme a shout.

did you hook it up via component HD?
For 600 quid you really can't go much wrong with the Tosh. I've seen the 360 running on a £1500 Philips LCD (last years top-of-the-line model), and the difference between that and the Toshiba was pretty neglible (i.e. I couldn't see it).

If you get one that doesn't buzz, it'll be the best gadget you've bought in a LONG time. :)

EDIT: And yep - component all the way.

    I have it also:

360 hooked up via vga (awesome)
PS2 hooked up via component (awesome)
PC hooked up via HDMI (excellent once you get the right resolution)
    TVDrive via HDMI (awesome)
    Dreamcast via Scart (ok)

Its an excellent TV for the cash, and everything looks superb hooked up to it, apart from scart stuff, which looks ok but not great, but then thats a generic LCD thing rather than the TV. It'll never look as good for SD stuff as a normal crt set, but as long as your expectations arent too high you'll still love it.

I have the 37" variant, and I think it's superb. No buzzing yet (after a month) and the 360 looks stunning through the standard cable \o/

Do it Pirotic, it's well worth it!

I have this set hooked up to a 360, Ps2, GC and even an N64 (bless it)

Got this TV as aprat from the great sound, it was by far the best at SD, and freeview looks stunning.

Had the 360 hooked up via both VGA and component, and as other have said the VGA does suffer from a slight right shift of the picture, but still very usable. Component gives great results, fractionaly less crisp than VGA (if you look at it from about 12"!) but better colour and perfect screen position. DVD's played on the 360 look amazing on component, I know it does not upscale, but still looks bloody good to me.

This set also does a very good job with composite connections, have the PS2 and Cube hooked up via scart adaptors as I cannot be arsed to switch leads, and it still looks fine.

I have it as you know.

I really, really love it :) I run the 360 via component and it looks very impressive - clean, sharp and bright. Two days ago I bought a component switch box and a component lead for my PS2 (with one component socket remaining for the Wii) and that too looks amazing. Obviously it can't compare to the 360 but it's a huge jump in quality and the tv does it 100% justice.

Standard tv is perfectly watchable (if you get closer than about 2 meters you can see slight pixelation in colours but I'm never that close unless I'm adjusting the position of the set or walking past it).

DVDs look good too. I'm looking forward to going HD with a DVD player but I'm in no hurry because the quality is perfectly acceptable, imo.

I refuse to believe you can find a better ,all round, TV for £600.

That's my problem. I want a new TV but it's ONLY going to be used for DVD's and the Wii, so I'm worried how they're going to look on an HD TV.

Don't really want to buy a TV that's not future proof and HD ready though. It's such a mine field!

While we're on the subject, has anyone else experienced the dreaded Buzz 'o Doom from their Toshiba? Mine was totally quiet, until I turned down the backlight (which really needs to be below 60). At about 88, the telly started to make a pretty loud buzzing noise, which changed pitch (but not volume) as the backlight got lower.

I ended up returning the set, and am now contemplating what the hell to do. Its a lovely, lovely set, but that noise really was driving me up the wall. :(

Glad to hear this. I'm getting this TV at Christmas (it's been ordered from Currys - I used promotional codes to get it for £627). It's sitting at home, but being the big kid I am I'm not opening it to Christmas (not too hard to do as I'm at Uni so it's not under the same roof as me anyway)

I have seen the 360 run on the 58 model and it looked superb. I have seen Sky HD on the 66 model and it looked brilliant. I can't wait to hook 360 up to mine! :-D

Anyone tried a Gamecube on this???

I was playing Ocarina of Time on the Gamecube on this telly last night. Since my wavebird broke I've been forced to sit close to the screen and it's fuzzy enough to give me a headache after playing too long. (GC connected via SCART BTW). But if you sit back a bit it looks great.

My plan is to keep the 360 on component and have the Wii (pre-order confirmed!!) on RGB SCART. Anyone think this may/may not be the best option?

Buy this and hook them all up via component.

The seller is trustworthy (I bought the item 2 days ago) and it makes a huge difference. I'm now playing my PS2 via component (bought the cable from him at the same time) and it's much better than via scart - no fuzzyness at all.

edit: gonna hook the Wii up using the last socket on the switchbox and the PS3 will be plugged in via HDMI.

Cheers for this. The reason I haven't considered using one of these before is that I assumed there will be some degree of signal degradation as the info pass through the box.

Maybe but I can't notice it and I sit about 2.5 meters away from the set when I play.

Not read the thread, but I have this telly and it he bees-effing-knees mate. I would highly recommend it. I put a link in the HDTV thread from earlier on to a review for it. What TV+Hifi or whatever it's called gave it a 5 out of 5.

Oh and I use it for my 360 and it's excellent via component

    Edit: Review
Supposedly it's been superseded by the 68

I was thinking of buying the 32WLT66 for a few months and that price from Amazon (Is that delivered?) certainly represent great value for money considering the quality of the product.

The only trouble is that I have been swayed by the new Toshiba 32WLT68. I think the new 68 is superior for a number of reasons, Looks, 3 x HDMI ports, Active vision M100 and Onkyo speakers.

I will now wait until the Christmas/Jan sales to see if there are any deals for the 32WLT68, hoping to pick it up for around £800/£820.

I am getting the 37" model next week, have looked at it in stores and obviously the online reviews are very positive.

To be fair, I'm upgrading from a 21" 4:3 CRT so I think anything LCD-wise is going to be revolutionary as far as I'm concerned.

Just thought I would bump this thread. I got my 37WLT66 set up yesterday and I am extremely happy with it, so far.

I am running my 360 through VGA at 1320x768 and it looks amazing. The picture fills the full frame of the TV and seems centered to me so I don't really know about the shifting reported above.

There was a very slight buzzing from the backlight, but I turned it down 10 from the default (as it's set too high IMHO) the noise is now practically inaudible in a silent room - total non-factor as soon as you are playing a game or watching something IMHO.

    Conclusion? Buy one!
