I got them half price too.

Only played like 10 minutes of The Signal so far. Need to go through them actually.

It's funny, i've been buying/enjoying much more downloadable/XBLA stuff than retail for the past wee while.

I've just bought this from someone on ebay for 6, looking forward to loading it up. I even got a card with a code on it to redeem against some DLC, unscratched too.

I can't recall a game with such a strong sense of atmosphere as Alan Wake has. It's brilliant.

They could grow it into a great franchise I reckon. seems a shame MS are not interested in the IP.

I don't think they've ruled out a sequel. The first game is decent, well worth 6 quid.

    First screen

Make over time. I wonder if he moves differently too.

With Night Springs not actually being a real place in Alan's world, I wonder how they're going to handle this? A series of unrelated 'episodes'? Or has Alan gone so far off the rails he's now putting himself in entirely fictional scenarios?

I'm keen for more Wake, regardless. Providing it's not some sort of horrible cash-in.

So, it would appear that this might be coming to the PC after all. It'd be cool to see it in a high resolution without all that tearing.

It was a great game, I thought. My favourite game of 2010.

I hope they let you turn off the current objective that is constantly plastered in giant font on the screen, despite the fact you were only ever going in one direction for the entire game.

Still brilliant mind but I always found that somewhat distracting.

Wasn't it ridiculous levels of ghosting rather than tearing. Game still looked great though. When you see the mountains in the distance, I just have to get out and look because the stupid camera view in the car doesn't do side view, some weird spring motion.

After watching the new trailer for the XBLA release, looks very similar to the original which is rather unexciting. Just a quick taster but hopefully not more of the same.

    Not using GFWL

That's nice to see. I guess Remedy are self publishing rather than MS on PC.

For potential PC buyers who don't keep an eye on the Steam deals thread, it's available for a third off via Green Man Gaming, it's a Steam code they provide.

Here is an interesting, albeit short, look at the making of Alan Wake from Edge Magazine.

They talk a bit about the tech, the combat and the character himself.

    Worth a read.

I was going to play more Cathrine this weekend, but I suspect I'll end up running around wide-eyed through Bright Falls again.

It's doing pretty well on Steam, so I'm hoping we'll see the new stuff on there once the XBL sales have levelled out.

I started playing Alan Wake on the 360 a few days ago. I'm up to the final chapter on hard. Just curious guys, did you find the combat difficult at all? I think I've died about 60 times so far. Excellent game though, would have been a goty contender for me if I'd played it in 2010.

Currently playing through AW (360) for a second time....this time on nightmare difficulty :S

Just got to the end of chapter 2 and think I've probably died 15-20 times already. Dreading to think of some of those harder, later sections.

From memory, even on Normal difficulty I found the game tricky in places, but attribute that to my being a little over-cautious on using the flares and flare guns. I'm far less cautious on the harder difficulty!

Really enjoying my second play through BTW. Forgot how beautiful a game this is. Looking forward to the DLC (never played) and then AW:AN which prompted the second play :0)

They don't half take the piss with using levels over and over again in American Nightmare. Just want it over with, third fucking time round.
  • Deleted user 27 October 2012 19:48:30
really? I know its better to have fresh levels but I really enjoyed the changes in interaction with the characters and how they remembered etc.
Granted if it was a 40 game that would be silly but you probably paid about 5??
Fight till dawn mode very entertaining.

Yeah, that is nice but a bit barebones when you really get down to it. Value is fine, just expected a bit more variety. At least they tighten up repeat levels to keep the pace up.

    Haven't played Horde yet.

First couple of games I though it was only average but when it clicks it is so much fun for a good few hours.
Last few minutes are crazy, make sure you save the big weapons till later.
  • Deleted user 23 May 2013 12:29:20
At that price definitely! Very good game if a little shonky in the battle mechanics but the story is great and it's quite creepy too.

Everything outside the gameplay is great, if schlocky, and the gameplay is acceptable.
