Has it got to the point where companies so overload us with info, if one stays schtum we automatically think it's in trouble?

    Yup. :)

With AW there was a flurry of activity, previews, interview and then....nothing. It would have made more sense to generate a lot of hype in the run-up to the release.

Unless it was MS trying to generate some interest in their console.

Well, yeah, but as it has been pointed out, it seems to be Remedy's way of doing things. Max Payne was hyped up years before its release for a short time, and then there was nothing for ages. Max Payne 2 came entirely out of nowhere. So I am not too worried, really.

    2009

TVG learns from Microsoft's Gamers Day that the possibility of a 2008 release for Alan Wake is looking extremely bleak...

A Microsoft Spokesperson has told TVG that Microsoft's Gamers Day (soon to start in San Francisco) is showcasing all of the company's major game releases for 2008, strongly suggesting that triple A title Alan Wake (which isn't on show at the event) will quietly slip into the 2009 release window that we all probably knew but hoped wouldn't happen.

Billed as a free roaming, psychological thriller that takes place across six square miles of the town Bright Falls, Alan Wake was originally announced at E3 2005 and subsequently revealed as an Xbox 360/PC exclusive at E3 2006. Since then everything has gone extremely quiet, not even a new trailer in the subsequent years.

The plush visuals, well doctored trailers, and the fact that it's in development at Remedy (of Max Payne fame), clearly frame the title within the triple A bracket. However, given that Microsoft's pride and joy are on show at its Gamers Day (including Gears of War 2), the fact that Alan Wake has been omitted from the hymn sheet clearly suggests that it won't see the light of day in 2008.

Following Microsoft's confirmation that Alan Wake would be shown at GDC 2008 last February (which it wasn't), this latest exception from Microsoft's biggest individual event of the year would seem to cement the game (in wet cement at the very least) as a 2009 release.

TVG has a man in San Francisco and we'll bring you all the news from Microsoft's Gamers Day very shortly.

It's good to hear both splinter cell and AW delayed until 2009. That way I don't have to rush out and buy a tard pack. Can wait and get a nice BD model that will hopefully be quiet.
Who said SC is coming 2009? We'll know at ubidays.

Have faith man! It'll be the greatest game ever that isn't Shenmue 3.

Shame, this game has been the most interesting horror prospect of this generation...

But at least it's not taking as long as DNF. Which we still haven't seem much of yet...

Why's the media so interested? All they've seen is a shot of Alan and a few hills.

    /doesn't get it.

Because the premise, done right, could turn out amazing. That trailer absolutely dripped atmosphere as well.

I wouldn't say so. Only Crysis has looked as good as the shots they released.

Not that you can trust bullshots. :D

Yeah I've always felt the same. It had a flashy trailer (which was apparently in game graphics...) but what else is meant to be so amazing about this game that we should all stop everything and pay attention every time it's name is uttered?

It's not like it's being developed by a world class developer or anything...

I remember hearing recently they had completely overhauled the engine. I think the graphics should be a lot better than last time it was shown (was impressive even by todays standards).

    I played it.

What happens right, is you're a milkman and on your milkrun one morning you find a free pen. You use that pen to write a letter to your cousin who in turn sends you a birthday card and then you realise it's your birthday and you're not actually a milkman, but as the needle pierces your lobe you really don't care too much.

Plenty of shooting action and innovative use of bloom and physics.

7/10, but wait for the first patch that'll fix the ammo count. I did not have eight bottles of antacid.

Right, has 7/10 written all over it.

Do you even know what genre it is? What the story is? Anyone play tested it?

    What a delicious contradiction.
