The reason I said imo it’s “nothing too sinister” is because as far as I can see it’s just the usual group of ignorant stupid bitches ganging up on someone who they feel inferior too and constantly bitching about their behaviour, and my suspicion is “Racist Big Brother” makes better headlines.

If they are constantly making racial slurs on her cleanliness and such then that is wrong, but this I haven’t noticed.

Nobody is defending anyone’s right to be racist so you can indeed come off your high horse.

I take you're point to a certain extent but BB & Ofcom have had over 10,000 calls of complaint..apparently. So it must be upsetting a lot of people.

If they turned Celeb BB into The Running Man, viewing figures would skyrocket.

I bet you nearly all of those calls were as a result of last nights news, rather than the proggy itself. You can't tell me 10,000 people are actually watching it :)

Whether Jack called Shilpa a "f***ing Paki", he's the one that started this little game. Jade is obviously a bit thick, and easily influenced. When he was slaughtering Shilpa in the first week, Jade was actually telling him to shut up, but as the days have gone on she's adopted his opinion as her own. Then bring in Jade's equally uneducated gang of cronies and you have your perfect model of mob mentality. Amazing to think Jade is the ambassador for an anti-bullying charity.

She was, I think the charity has now dumped her.

probably most of Shilpas family...ooops..is that racist? I read elsewhere that she was taking the piss out of Dirks name lastweek...isn't that racist aswell or just a funny observation?..but then she gets pissed when Jades mum said her name wrong...Shilpa is up her own arse ( where i wouldn't mind being :p )
Channel 4 and Endemol are thriving on this coverage..it's boosted their ratings no-end...

I have watched a little of this and I don't know if there are grounds for saying some behaviour is definitely born from racist feelings rather than out of absolute jealousy.

The language used (save for Jack?) hasn't been explicitly racist (although one of the girls did say that Shilpa was 'trying to be white') but more of an undercurrent (hands thing etc.).

Are they ganging up against Shilpa due to her race? Maybe.
But they are probably just really jealous of a real actress, who is talented and beautiful.

The amount of complaints don’t surprise me. People are very sensitive when it comes to issues of race (myself included) and are even quicker to rally a response within the relevant community.

What slightly confuses me is what they are actually complaining about, or rather what they want to happen. It’s not like the Ron Atkinson incident for example, where the complainers wanted him to be fired (which he was). This is fly on the wall “reality” TV. What exactly are Channel 4 supposed to do, and what exactly are they being accused of doing wrong? I don’t really get it, surely this is the nature of the beast…

If they are being accused of some sort of irresponsibility, then this is OLD as they say. This is nothing compared to the mentally unstable bloke who they nearly drove to suicide last year. Plus the racist thing is nothing new, BB contestants have been accused of racism, fatism, ageism, sexism, homophobia and pretty much everything else in the past. This is what you get with this program.

The response this time is more extreme in my opinion because the Asian community is far more aware of what is happening, due to it featuring a prominent Bollywood star, but honesty, as I said before, what is gong on in the house is business as usual for BB. Stupid, ignorant vile people being stupid, ignorant and vile.

    That's not racist?

thats like saying Eminem (who thinks he's black) or any white 'person' is trying to act like some one else...just observation and comparison!

I agree with kalel about how it's business as usual for BB as I hate the show - haven't watched any since the 2nd series I think.

Thing is, this is "Celebrity BB", which in our current Celebrity obsessed culture seems to imply that it should be better because we're led to believe that "celebrities" are better people. So it's quite amusing to see it crash and burn TBH :-) Hopefully it'll destroy what pathetic "careers" Jade and the other bints previously enjoyed :-D

    What a twat. :/

But at least Jade did pick up on it and basically implied to him she didn't agree with what he was saying. Jade gets a lot of criticism which is mostly justified I'll admit, but I also think the girl deserves a little credit for turning out so well compared to how her mum acts.

That was the bit I was talking about earlier, right at the beginning of the trouble. Jade seems to have gone downhill since then.

So that's the word, then. Well it sounded a hell of a lot more like 'paki' then it did 'cunt'.

The couple of Indians I know get greatly offended at being confused with Pakistanis. Same with the New Zealanders who get confused with Aussies, and Canadians who get confused with Americans.

'Paki' is a racist term. It's akin to calling a black person 'nigger'.

Nothing to do with nationality, just colour.

'Paki' isn't just a cute nickname for country of origin. It's in line with the terms wop and spick. It's not a nice thing to say.

Taken in the context of when he's supposed to have said it, it's clearly meant in a derogatory way.
