Registered 20 years agoF*ck me - I've just had two fillings, and it was absolute agony.
I've had root canals in the past and they were fine, but I don't think the 'numbing juice' was at full strength.
I thought I was going to pass out at one point. ;_; -
Pfft, try getting seven teeth taken out.

I just discovered that it's extremely hard to eat a salad when your entire jaw is numb. -

Registered 16 years agoOnly if you let it be, surely. I would have thought that adults are less likely to be cruel about it than kids in the playground. -

Registered 18 years agoSee if you can get some like Jaws from James Bond. No-one would dare say anything then.
If you need them then sod what other people think, get it sorted, you'll feel much better once it's done and dusted and removed later on. -

Registered 16 years agoWhy didn't you have anaesthetic?
Luckily I've never had any serious dental work, must be nasty.
Teeth are starting to look a bit worn these days, gone is the smile of my youth

Registered 12 years agoYeah generally anaesthetic isn't required for a crown, despite the common American term "I'd rather get a root canal than do such and such" making out that it's a rather horrific procedure.
Had 12 teeth removed and 2 fillings myself, and I dread having to have any major work done in the future, as the last extraction operation I had was awful. The other three went pretty smoothly, but the last one took a lot longer due to an awkward tooth refusing to budge and it was very unpleasant. Very scared of developing any wisdom teeth, as I have an overcrowded jaw as it is, and having any of them come through would cause quite a big problem I think, so just hoping that I don't get any. -

Well two of my friends (in their 30's) and they have the clear plastic braces/moulds, work in exactly the same way but are virtually undetectable. Like a mouth gaurd it is shaped to your gums & teeth. -

Well 8 were pre-adult teeth, and 4 were adult teeth. Have a small jaw so had overcrowding, and the only way to ease it was to remove some teeth so the others could have room to grow into.
consignia's picture is not entirely accurate though

Registered 14 years agoHas anyone tried cosmetic whitening? I'm going to get it done soon - since I've started smoking I've noticed a definite yellowing of my enamel so instead of quitting cigs I'm going to spend money on fake whiteness. -

Registered 19 years agoYeah I have in the past, although to be honest I found the home kit stuff a lot better for me so I would recommend trying them first, unless you're a smoker and have really yellow teeth.
Crest Whitestrips are good, but expensive. Plus White is the best value for money and work as well as any of the ones I've tried. -

Registered 19 years agoDepends on how you take care of your teeth, I found for the laser whitening the 2 weeks or so afterwards is really important to avoid anything too staining, then you just maintain it with whitening toothpaste and mouthwash. It always gets advertised as up to 2 years, but you won't really need it again if you look after them, or you'll need it every year if you don't. -

They are good, and it's free. If you live near a dental college, they need people to practice their craft. They are also supervised by a qualified dentist, so don't panick. -

They are good, but be glad there is a qualified dentist there…I had one mistake dental cement for calculus! Even though the entire reason i was there was to follow up the condition of my teeth having bitten a fist and had all my upper front teeth dislodge…Read the file dummy!
What followed was a vey bizzare form of eletric shock torture to each tooth while my reaction time was measured…this was done four times over 18 months…!
In general all dentists annoy me, through no fault of their own so much as the state of my teeth at the age of 22.
All my teeth are straight and clean…but the back ones grew out while i was ill and are brown and brittle[at least no one can see them!] and the front teeth have been ripped from their sockets once and im just lucky to have them. Other than smoking [which thanks to this thread http://www.eurogamer.net/forum_thread_posts.php?thread_id=176234 i have now stopped] i do everything right for good dental hygiene but its a battle already lost. -

I'm impressed, my Crown came off during the Procedure today and the Dentist just built up a full synthetic tooth that looks and feels every bit as good if not better in 90 mins or so.
Respect.
Pity I still look like a stroke victim
