But i don't really buy games anymore since GamePass.
Buy a £50 voucher for Xbox or PS4 and sell it on here for £45.

Someone will buy it, and you're better off having £45 than £50 that will be utterly worthless (potentially) inside three months.

Game will probably be able to limp on until the end of the year. The Switch is probably single handedly keeping them going at this point. They will then get a boost when the new generation kicks in.

No idea where I will buy a PS5 or XBSX from. Bought PS4 from Amazon but they accused me of stealing the PSVR they failed to deliver and forged the signature for.* So not buying it from them again. And bought the Switch from Tesco online but I donít think they do consoles anymore.

    Probably end up being Argos.

*(They actually used a legitimate signature fraudulently. They got the receptionist to sign for something that didnít need a signature and used that for the PSVR they didnít deliver).

People have been prognosticating the end of Game for years now. Still they limp on.

Who even owns them now? Looks like Sports Direct bought them and then that got subsumed under under Frazers Group, presumably when wossisface bought House of Frazer and that sounded less cheap and nasty then his own brand.

Frazer Group seems to be doing quite well, despite all the naysaying about retail.

I did notice a tiny little concession stand of games in the doorway of the local Sports Direct while passing by the other day. No idea if they have more in store but had no inination to investigate further (was a few sports games and the new Star Wars game and some £189 Switch Lite dummy boxes.

Ashley bought them. They have got rid of a huge chunk of their head office staff and belong is failing spectacularly compared to what they thought it would do.

He will carry on stripping it down and closing/combining stores until it makes him money though as he does with all his businesses.

January to March tends to be the danger period for high-street retailers. By then, they know whether Christmas has saved their bacon and the approaching end of the financial year tends to crystalise lots of issues around rates, rents and other bills.

Thinking back to what I've seen in the business pages recently, Thorntons is looking like it might be this year's high-profile casualty. Doesn't mean Game are safe, but Ashley can probably play for time with them.

    Yeah Thornton's look foobarred.

Might survived by purely going down the concession route (selling via John Lewis, etc.) but as a retailer themselves they're gone.

Body Shop will go as well.

Hadn't picked up on Body Shop, but it wouldn't surprise me. The local branch here always looks deserted.

Clintons Cards is already circling the drain - and they have quite a few Thorntons concessions in their stores.

Our local Thorntons is closing on the 4th January but wasn't sure if company was in trouble or just the local branch.

A new branch of Game opened in Newcastle just before Christmas.

It's in the part of the shopping centre where the novelty pop-ups usually open and it's got about half the stock of the branch which shut earlier in the year.

@One_Vurfed_Gwrx They closed the local branch here back in November. There's still a small concession in the Clintons, though.

Is the full list of the 40 stores that are closing (or being moved into concessions within Sports Direct) available yet? Kinda suspect my local might end up on the list. It's not in a bad location, but there's a huge Sports Direct just a few doors away.

Also, while I'd normally rather gargle with my own diarrhea than link to a Polygon article, this piece on Gamestop is actually worth reading. If you've not been to one in the US recently, it's probably hard to grasp just how vile Gamestop stores have become. Take every negative stereotype we have about CEX and multiply it up (filthy, stinking stores, battered products), then marry it to a level of customer service you'd generally have expected in a Warsaw Pact prison. But they have stores absolutely everywhere (sometimes two branches in the same mall), so it will feel like a big deal when they do go under.

So have Game stores closed, still opening their stores, or just declared bankruptcy yet?

My local shopping centre will probably benefit from losing the characteristic aroma that surrounded the store.

I noticed the free postage options had disappeared on there myself. It really isn't going to help their situation.

I pre-ordered the Xenoblade Chronicles LE from there, as they were the only ones to have it, and they are charging me £7 for delivery.
