How about setting your PS3 to offline mode and trying again.
  • Deleted user 26 April 2010 19:23:49
Works fine here, I am offline btw, as per askew's comment.

Aha! Cheers askew, switching it to offline seems to have done the trick!

Do you get 3D glasses with it like Arkham Asylum? Not to piss on your chips, but it'll be rubbish without the 3D.

No 3d glass no 3d, can see how this would be good in 3d though, the flying scenes would have been fantastic.
  • Deleted user 26 April 2010 19:36:41
That's really weird. Its USP was the 3D element, and then they go and make DVD 2D only? It would've been pretty easy to make it like Arkham Asylum, wouldn't it? Saying that, I don't know if the 3D in AA is any good, so maybe it wouldn't have done Avatar justice.
  • Deleted user 26 April 2010 19:40:17
I never saw it in 3d, so I am not going to miss it, from what I have read of it, decent fantasy film, crap script/plot, which is pretty much how these things are anyway.
  • Deleted user 26 April 2010 19:42:29
    Pretty much right. :)

As a film, it's rubbish. The 3D saves it.

Saw this for the first time on blu ray today. I was hoping to be blown away but I'm sad to say I was rather bored. The plot is so by the numbers it's untrue. I've haven't got any problems with a well worn tale told well, however this was too much. Visually it's amazing, although to be fair the six legged horses, panthers, rhino's, Roger Dean dragons etc are pretty uninspired. Sam Worthington has zero charisma which wasn't helping my immersion in the film either. On the plus side Cameron's direction especially on the action scenes is unbeatable and WETA and ILM's fx work has set a new benchmark. I think that sums it up for me really, a technical marvel but with no soul.

Or maybe you really had to see it in 3D?

Surely this needs to have been seen in the cinema in 3D. I can only imagine that watching it on a small screen at home in 2D is like watching a rollercoaster on youtube. :/

Yeah, i enjoyed the film a lot but a lot of it was because of the 3-D spectacle of the whole thing. I found it hugely immersive.

Take that away & put it on a 2-D tv screen, & it's a pretty simple sci-fi film.

Cameron hates anaglyph 3-D, that's why the home versions are 2-D only. There is a super-special possibly extended edition planned for Xmas, & a 3-D home version planned for when 3DTV picks up. They're gonna milk this fucker to death, basically.

Yes, pretty much everything about the film is shit, shit, *shit*. Bland characters, uninspired story, music stolen from Aliens, horrible scrip... wooo, pretty colours I like dem purty colours

Well for everyone who thinks that its success was just down to the 3D gimmick Blu-Ray & DVD sales seem to show it had deeper appeal.

Well, what if they bought the DVD or BR and said "wow, this is actually pretty shite now". That would still count as a sale, right? :D

Anyway, its success doesn't surprise me in the slightest. Nobody does an event movie like James Cameron.

Me dear old Ma watched this for the first time last night. To paraphrase "It was slow to start with, then the story picked up speed. It was a more of a women's film and the the ending was lovely"!?

Looks as though Avatar 2 will concentrate on Pandora's oceans. We kind of got the message first time around Jimbo.

Just seen this in 3d at the local IMAX having already seen it in 2d at a "normal" cinema. The sound was *incredible* but the 3d effect was forced and actually caused a significant loss of visual fidelity in certain scenes. Overall I still enjoyed the film but I can't recommend that anyone go see the IMAX version

Same. Watched the Blu-Ray the other night. Not a taxing film by any stretch of the imagination, but a great popcorn flick nonetheless.
