| Hopefully the trailer is a misrepresentation of the story and in the end we stomp those treehuggers good, enslave them and court martial that traitorous soldier. |

So... it's the Ewoks vs. the Imperials then... except ONE MAN is caught in the middle. /o\
That's a good analogy there Demi. Cameron's gone all Lucas. Sadly, I spy The Phantom Menace. -

Registered 12 years agoYes, maybe there's a twist halfway through and we realise that the Navi are pretending to be into all their hippy claptrap because they have to be brutally slain in order to enter the afterlife.
Then we can cheer the Americans as they nuke them from orbit. -

I didn't say it wasn't, for fucks sake. I DIDN'T SAY IT WASN'T. I did, however, say that filming this in 3D isn't going to make it a compelling story, which someone hypothetically postulated was the big marketing hook that the hype was being hung on.

I'm intrigued by the idea of a film whose story relies on being told in 3D for it to work. Genuinely - what was it?
Your obsession with story being the be all and, more importantly, the end all of a film is strange.
I'm sure they could have shot Lawrence Of Arabia on a mobile phone but it wouldn't have been half the film it is in 70mm.
Story needs to be coupled with form for it to be great.
Filming it in 3D will make it look all nice. But if the story is crapola, it won't make it 'more compelling'. It'll just make it look nice. Anyone that is in any doubt that the 3D is there purely for eye candy really needs to get a grip.
Now then, you also jumped the gun on the comment you're responding to. Someone on the previous page said they had seen a film in 3D in which the medium was in fact essential to the story, and I'm saying - cool! What was it, I'm interested!
Now back off, thanks. Nothing to see here. -

Ok, I just showed this to my ten year old Son to gauge his reaction. His face lit up like a Christmas Tree and at first he was pretty speechless. In fact, the only words he could get out were, "AWESOME", and "COOOOOOOOOOOL, CANNOT WAIT!"
Maybe we're all missing something here.
He also mentioned that the music was very good. On that, I'd have to agree.
Yes, methinks everyone was worked up for hardcore sci-fi, when really Cameron is leaning towards to teen/family audience. In which case there'll be a lot of happy kids come Christmas. -

Heh, to be Star Wars style shit it'll have to tie itself down so much in story and plot elements everything else will be lost in the mire.
Also, notice how it says "from the director of Titanic". And the last shot. It's a family movie. -
It really, really is. -

Back...back to your Abrams/Bay/McG shit. The moment where Worthington smiles at his avatar tells you all you need to know, you're in the hands of someone that actually know how to make films.[/code]
Huh? So he smiled at his avatar and... that's an indicator that Cameron can "make films"? God the internet is stupid. -
I've seen it three times so far.
Looks amazing. I think some people had either their expectations a little too far. -
It looks expensive but I have absolutely no idea what to make of it plotwise. But it looks like it's going to be loud and long and dull.
Of course it might be completely different, I'll have to wait and see. -

Registered 12 years agoBut, sadly Demi, that's what the trailer's all about now, innnit?
sjh, it actually said: From the director of The Titanic. Why the fuck did they put a 'The' in front of it? At least it doesn't appear it will be weighed down in plot and politics. Maybe on screen once the grain is restored it'll look better anyway. Also, maybe it needs more colour correction, maybe those aren't final renders. I assume work will carry on right up to release which is almost four months away. Maybe Cameron's trying to dial down expectation with this trailer.
Maybe, I said maybe far too many times. -
It looks really really emo.
Not a huge fan of the visual style either, for what it's worth. Way too clean. -
Yeah, the flatmates have now seen it and they're not geeks. They're definitely into it.
"Even if it's not particularly great, it'll be worth seeing. If it's good it'll be very good." Said one.
I have to agree. I was a bit standoffish about the Navi designs but I can see what he's doing with them. -

I didn't like that movie when it was called Star Trek Insurrection. -

Sadly I don't recall the short-movie, but it was a collection of Pixar 'shorties' in 3D and one was specifically designed for 3D. It was Tom and Jerry-esque, ladders swinging out towards the audience, whacky camera angles taking you down holes and around tight corners into waiting jaws.
Yo make a good point though, 3D alone cannot make a story compelling.
This link worked for me if anyone is still struggling to see the trailer.
I'm not sure what I think of the trailer yet. It didn't explain any of the story and just looked pretty, up until the blue-kids showed up. I know the premise behind the movie.
Not sure what to make of those yet. They're just not proportional at all (yeah yeah I know, they're aliens).
Mechs ftw though. The only good thing in Matrix Revolutions was those bad boys.
And Zoe Saldana is a beautiful beautiful actress. She better not be CG! -
